Baraboo; son of Lyman and Thilda (Hooper) Butterfield; born March 24, 1828, in Syracuse, Onondaga Co., NY; came to Wisconsin Dec. 5 1878 and located to Baraboo, Sauk Co. He was a member of Co I, 13th W.V.I.; mustered in June, 1861, discharged about July 1862, on account of disability; he participated in the battle of Pea Ridge,, the fight at Wilson's Creek, and all other battles fought by his company while with the. Mr. Butterfield's father's family consisted of four boys and four girls; one sister or Mr. Butterfield is married to Jacob Hunt, with whom Mr. Butterfield lives; they have had two children - one died in the spring of 1875, the other is still living.
