Dear List, Can anyone tell me anything about this burial location? An old burial plot containing some half dozen graves, in the eastern part of Syracuse, New York, near the Abbott residence, 1316 Madison Street. lie the remains of Aaron Bush and Martha Beedle Bush, his wife. Thank you. Dolores Apple Valley, CA
Dolores, I don't know which cemetery that might be, but I can suggest if you cannot find out from somebody else, you might contact the Onondaga Historical Association. Dennis Connors, who works at OHA, gave a presentation about cemeteries in the Syracuse area to the Central New York Genealogical Society earlier in March. He talked basically about the evolution of burial grounds throughout the area. The address you provide is very close to Thornden Park, and I do recall Dennis mentioning a very small cemetery that was near Thornden Park. What was done in many of the older cemeteries no longer in active use in Syracuse was rather sad -- the tombstones were often laid down flat and covered over, leaving little to no evidence that a cemetery ever was there. I hope this isn't the case for the burial you seek, but it just might be. -- Mary Taffet in Syracuse On Mon, 29 Mar 2004 [email protected] wrote: > Dear List, > > Can anyone tell me anything about this burial location? > > An old burial plot containing some half dozen graves, in the eastern part of > Syracuse, New York, near the Abbott residence, 1316 Madison Street. lie the > remains of Aaron Bush and Martha Beedle Bush, his wife. > > Thank you. > > Dolores > Apple Valley, CA > >
