John, I looked in the Voorhees cemetery records and only found two entries for Roberts. 1) Mrs. Roberts, bur Dec. 24, 1862 (Riverside Cemetery in Baldwinsville) 2) Amelia M Roberts, 86F, b. Germany, pleural pneumonia, died Mar 14, 1934, bur. lot 617 RV (Riverview Cemetery - old section of Riverside) There are several entries for ROBER (without the T), but did not see any John or Anthony or Antoine. Hope this helps! This family seems to have arrived ca. 1840 or so. This Roberts family seems to have had its roots at Montreal and Anthony is the son of Francois Roberts. Was there a Catholic Church at Baldwinsville - a grave yard ? did they travel to church anywhere near the place at that time. I am descended from John Robert(s) b. 1809 Canada - he married a Dutch girl named Margaret Schermerorn and had children starting abt 1840. This seems to be a religiously mixed household. Not sure how well that went over at the time. According to the 1855 census take the older children were born in Onondaga and by 1850 they had moved to Volney, Oswego and then Fulton. I suspect that Anthony and John Roberts might be related both being close in proximity - both on the barge canal - both being French Canadian And having children abt the same time. John Roberts died post 1870 at Fulton - his wife is buiried at Mt Adnah Cem but not John - had wondered if he might be buried with his people over at Baldwinsville or Lysander. Any help or ideas would be of interest. Jack Hanover,Pa
Hi Jack- I noticed your SCOTT surname and wondered if you have any Scott ancestry from Syracuse? I am researching a Peter Scott, b ca 1860-1870 in Co Mayo Ireland. Peter married a Margaret Berrane Byron Birrane... about 1891. I believe they married in Massachusetts, and one child John P ,was born there in 1893. Another child, Anna E (named after Margt sister Anna Eliz Berrane, who married Martin SWEENEY in 1887 Syracuse) was born in NY in 1895. Apparently Peter died, as Margt appears in Syracuse with her 2 children in 1908.They were living with Patrick and Ellen EGAN. Ellen was also a sister of Margaret and Anna Byron Berrane. They were all born in Co Mayo as well. I don't believe the daughter Anna ever married. John P did marry, I believe, to a Marian. They had a Dawn A Scott, b 1927. There may have een a son Walter, but I may be wrong on that. I would love to connect with some Scott, Berrane, Egan or Sweeneys from Syracuse. The Sweeney line is from Crossmolina, Co Mayo Ireland. I would also love any info on Peter and family, as they see so elusive! Thanks, Diane Sweeney Groman, formerly of Syracuse ----- Original Message ----- From: Teresa & Bruce Downer<mailto:[email protected]> To: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> Sent: Monday, January 03, 2005 5:10 PM Subject: RE: [NYOnonda] Baldwinsville - Catholic Church early ca 1840 - French Canadian John, I looked in the Voorhees cemetery records and only found two entries for Roberts. 1) Mrs. Roberts, bur Dec. 24, 1862 (Riverside Cemetery in Baldwinsville) 2) Amelia M Roberts, 86F, b.
