Is there a less expensive way to obtain death certificates than the site shown on line? I would like to get three,but in looking for them it would cost almost $200, which I find somewhat prohibitive. Joe

After obtaining the name, date and location of death, a fee of $22 for each Death Certificate is needed. (That information can be obtained for free from the NYS Dept of Health Vital Statistics fiche at the Onondaga County Public Library's Local History & Genealogy Dept.) I think its best to get one directly from Albany (NYS Health Department) because it is the exact copy of the original certificate. One from Syracuse will generally be a transcription of the information which could result in mistakes.
