Liz, It might be more fruitful to follow the paper trail in Constantia, Oswego county and see if his enlistment papers are there. There is also a possibility that he received bounty money for enlisting and records maybe found at the county level. I would start with the town clerk in Constantia and work my way forward from there. I found ten George W John son's who served from NY had a residence in NY and survived the war, so there are many suspects to check. (Civilwardata.com, a subscription based business) Sometimes these people enlisted where friends or family members did, so I would also look for information in those places. A second obit may have been printed in an Oswego county newspaper since he was from there originally. Hope this helps. I picked him out as the one a while ago, and it was not him. So now I have a Civil War Pension on someone it wasn't. Take care, and thanks a lot. I appreciate the help. I will keep the Onondaga County Library in mind. Does it just have Onondaga History or does it carry history for the region. I live in Knoxville, TN and might come up sometine. Thanks again. I have been on vacation or I would have responded earlier.
