I just wanted to state my experience with volunteering to do lookups. I do lookups for one small cemetery in a hamlet in upstate NY. You can't imagine the amount of request I get to look-up people who they think may have been in NY at one time or another! People with no connection what so ever to the small hamlet that I live in and do look ups for! I've gotten request to do all sorts of genealogy lookups throughout NY state. People see you do lookups and ask all kinds of things of you. Recently someone wanted me to find an obit or hospital records from New York City, a seven hour drive from here! I'm sure other volunteers are inundated in the same manner. I always reply to these requests but I can see how a volunteer would get "burned out" and stop helping everyone or maybe even change their e-mail!
