Dear List: Do any of you have the subject book? And if so, would you be willing to look up some information in it on page 56 and possible other pages containing names of interest? My sincere apology to all. It is obvious that my last post was meant to go only to one recipient. In sending the message, my intent was to share a private opinion with just one person, while not intending to hurt anyone. Being one who posts rarely, I had no idea that the boards had been changed to preclude the sending of a reply to only the sender. I ask that all simply ignore my last post and we move on to just genealogy. JME
Connie, Some people are just not worth the trouble of an argument. There is always someone who thinks it is their God given responsibility and duty to police the rest of us whether we ask them or not. She even sent a second similar message after my apology! I assumed because the apology was mis-labeled. LOL What good is the internet if you can't even say "Thank you" to someone for doing a kind deed, without some other anally retentive personality taking you to task for it? I was tempted to send back a pubic nastygram, and then considered the source. Life is too short. Lets just ignore her. Jim Eagan
Yes I guess you did miss something and Jim Eagan kindly took the blame. The reason It was on Jackson St. was because I jumped in on a coversation of Jackson St and I didnt know when to change the subject since it started there. If theres any Actual fault I take the blame Sorry, ..... Connie But even as now I dont know if I should be changing the subject. since I'm replying. ```````````````````````````````````````````````````````` Sender: nyononda-bounces@rootsweb.com From: rolauren@verizon.net(rolauren) Date: Mon, Apr 9, 2007, 2:57pm To: nyononda@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [NYONONDA] Jackson st 1952 Reply to: nyononda@rootsweb.com Did I miss something here? To Connie, Rick et al Back in the early 1990s there was an interesting, well written history of Solvay, which included Solvay Process. I remember it was a trade paperback and an easy read. Not sure where my copy is but I do remember it was written by a very nice young lady whose family came from there. I do not know if or where it might still be available, but I would start with the Solvay library. A quick Google search showed the exact title to be Smokestacks Allegro: The Story of Solvay, a Remarkable Industrial/Immigrant Village 1880-1920 and the author to be a Rita M. Cominolli (Now an M.D.) who has apparently gone on to have quite a stellar career. Connie, I see in the 1930 census that Daniel Roscoe was a labour in the alkali prods industry. A google search of syracuse and "alkali products" brings up links for "solvay process". The company "Solvay Process" is well know in the Syracuse area. A seach on that brings up the link for the "Solvay-Geddes Historical Society" http://www.rootsweb.com/~nysghs/ . Also the page about the Solvay Process Room at the Solvay Public Library http://www.clrc.org/solvay/splsproom.htm . I didn't see anything that specifically talked about your relative. Now this doesn't say that he worked there but it is a reasonable assumption. Also from the 1930 census he immigrated in 1894. Found nothing on this. I did check the Canadian Border Crossing database at Ancestry. Also that his address was 934 Emerson Ave. A search of Google Maps http://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en&tab=wl&q= shows that is close by where Solvay Process was. I don't know who you could hire to connect you surnames from Syracuse in the 1930's back to Cheneville Canada in 1887. BTW, the french spelling for Daniel is also Daniel. Though it is pronounced differently. Hope some of this helps. Still there. I drove past them on Almond just this morning. Actually, Jackson Street continues past Almond a little bit and there are more apartments there- it dead ends behind some of the hospital property-- not sure which one. The Veterans Hospital, part of SUNY Upstate University and Crouse Hospital are all in a row on Irving Ave. at the top of the hill. I would guess it would be part of Upstate's buildings directly behind Jackson St. Nancy Ward On Apr 4, 2007, at 2:08 PM, rolauren wrote: > Are those apartments there currently? > > -----Original Message----- > From: David and Janet [mailto:djrpublic@cfl.rr.com] March 31, 2007 > 6:06 PM > To: nyononda@rootsweb.com > Re: Jackson St, Marcellus > From someone who lives near there and whose husband went to school > there: > There is no Jackson Street, Road, Ave or anything in Marcellus. > Jackson Street n Syracuse runs bet Townsend nd Almond south of Adams > street. > Brick apartments, subsidized housing that you can see from I81. > > > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > NYONONDA-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message >
