OPPS!! Let's try this again There is also this site for Madison Co. that you may want to check out. http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ny/county/madison1/index.htm
The only problem with getting a Vital Record like a Death Certificate from a Town Clerk is that it tends to be a transcription, not a copy of the original certificate. Albany sends photo copies of the original. Snail mail requests tend to take about 12 months to receive, but hand delivery takes only about a month or so. Do your best to insist on a photo copy of the original certificate for accuracy, otherwise you may end up with a situation like I did. On Feb 14, 1893, James McGinn died in the Town of Warsaw. When I received a copy from the Warsaw Town Clerk, it said he was from Olean Tyrone, Ireland, and he died as a result of 'fatty degeneration of the head'!! (I know many 'Fat Headed men' and yes i could believe that could be a potential fatal problem, but I never thought I'd see it as a true medical diagnosis!) Eventually I got a Copy from Albany, a photocopy of the original. This one said... he was born in County Tyrone Ireland, and died of 'fatty degeneration of the HEART'!! Just a slight difference in the two Certificates, huh? I strongly suggest getting a photocopy of the original and do not settle for a transcribed copy! Thanks & Happy Halloween! Hi NYS has Death Certificates since 1881 for Upstate New York (outside of NYC) and a Genealogy Copy can be ordered at the following URL for $22. This is for a Death Record that is "over 50 years" unless you are next of kin. http://www.health.state.ny.us/vital_records/genealogy.htm You can also contact the City/Village or Town Clerk where the person D directly and I have found this method to be faster and better. So I suggest you get the exact location of the Death (not the residence) of your people and make a TC to the Clerk and confirm the charge. Then Snail Mail a request direct. Good Luck Pat R

You are not alone. Others have tried to use webtv with the same results. I did talk to my webhost and original site designer and his comment was "The site is not designed for webtv." His words, not mine. I don't think there is anything that can be done. You might want to look at the website at your local library or anyplace that has a free Internet connection. Computers have come down so much in price you might want to check one of the deep discount computer vendors for a basic pc. I suspect you can get one that will surf the net for about $300. Thanks for the contact and best of luck to you. Hello Annie, I cant help you much with research because I'm not very professional at this genealogy thing. But I live a couple or so hrs away from Albany Ny. You have quite a travel ahead and I have traveled alot alone in my days. I am still thankfull today for the Strangers who have helped me when I got in troublesome situations. In the spirit of passing on good deeds I would like to offer my Name and phone number In case you should need it. And of coarse give you "safe" references that I am who I am and mean no harm. I wish we ancester hunters could form some kind of alliance like that for everyone. There are organizations that do that for their members. Maybe someday one of the organizations that support ancester hunting can work out a deal with local motels and Auto garages. and Car Rentals perhaps get them to help in emergency situations. ( Well now I just added Auto garages and Car rentals ) So Why not try to work out something with Triple A insurance for genealogist and amatear ancester hunters. It would be nice if they had info at the motel of their local area that could assist the researcher. For most cases I'm sure that time is so valuble . Being a woman I would also think it beneficial if local woman could volunteer to go with these woman to graveyards in their local towns with the travler. But Id beware unless they were approved of by an organization and let the organization know the place and time this would take place. I myself am more leary to go about these places alone anymore. Perhaps I'm not the only one. This wouldnt be a bad idea for the guys either. I beleive it could be a win- win thing :) Email me Privately please for my Phone number If you choose to. And if you dont need it , Then I wish you happy and safe Hunting. ..................... My main emphasis will be on state censuses. Where do I find them in Albany? Time permitting, what else might I find there? Naturalization petitions from around 1860? Early immigration records from the 1700s? Vitals that I can get other ways I won't be doing. For those of you familiar with Albany research, suggestions would be helpful.
