    1. Re: Salina Twp; 1820-30 Land records source?
    2. Pam & Jay Priest
    3. Hello Rob, With respect to your two questions: 1. Land Records can be located not only at the Onondaga County Courthouse, but on Microfilm at the: Onondaga County Public Library Local History/Special Collections 447 South Salina St., Syracuse, NY 13202-2494 PHONE: 315-435-1800 Since you're in MA, your best bet would be to try the library. 2. For Vital Records in Salina in the 1820's (and New York State in general), we have to rely on church records, bible records, cemetery records, family records, etc., because vital records weren't kept until the later 1800's. This is one of the reasons why we're trying to build up the Onondaga County USGenWeb with early church, bible, cemetery & family records to help everyone. Hopefully this helps! If you'd like to add any of your findings to the Onondaga County USGenWeb site, please let me know. Thanks, Pam Priest http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyononda/INDEX.HTM Onondaga County USGenWeb Site Coordinator Onondaga County Mail List Owner 1. Does anyone know where land records (grantee/or index and records) are kept for the township of Salina in the 1820's? Would it be in the town clerk's office? the county clerk? county courthouse? Does anyone have the address and phone number? I live in MA, but am researching the Jeremiah HOLMES family. 2. How about Vital records for Salina in the 1820's? Thanks for any help you can provide! 3. Hi Betty, You may want to search the Onondaga County USGenWeb site for information. Kathy Crowell and Sue Goodfellow from Manlius have added a ton of records for Manlius. http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyononda/MANLIUS/MANLIUS.HTM You may also like to contact Kathy Crowell at LCrow10101@aol.com if you don't find what you're looking for at the site yet. Good luck! Pam Priest http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyononda/INDEX.HTM Onondaga County USGenWeb Site Coordinator Onondaga County Mailing List Owner. I have a dead end with two ancestors. Giles Sadler and Sophia Robinson were born somewhere in MA according to census records. They show up in Cicero in the 1830 census as a married couple. I figure that Giles was born in 1804-5 and Sophia in 1808-9. There is some indication that Giles at least may have been in Manlius in 1820 living with a brother or cousin and there are also some Robinsons in Manlius at that time. Other than census information, what exists for this time period in these two towns? And where would I go to find it. Does anyone have phone numbers for the town historians concerned? 3. I have a copy of the will of a DANIEL MOORE of Marcellus, NY, dated 17 June 1817. I can't connect him with my MOOREs, but someone else may be able to. For what it's worth, here is my translation (there is no discernable punctuation): "In the name of God Amen I Daniel Moore [ ?? ] of the town of Marcellus County of Onondaga and State of New York being through the mercy and goodness of God though weak in body yet of sound and perfect understanding and memory do constitute this my last will and testament and desire it may be [ ?? ] by all as such -- [ ?? ] I give my beloved wife Betsey all the property that remains after my debts [ ?? ] as long as she remains my widow if not longer than [ ?? ] time that my children are all of age at which time tis my will that the property is [ ?? ] be equally divided among my four daughters Nancy, Fanny, Peggy Artemesia and Sally Minion(?) and lastly I make and constitute to wife Betsey and my brother Joseph Moore executors of this my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto [ ?? ] and seal this seventeenth day of June in the year of our Lord 1817." 3. In Oct. I posted a pedigree showing 3 successive generations of Shepard women who married 3 successive generations of Wilson men in the late 18th and early 19th c. and who lived in NY. I wondered what the relationships among the Shepard women were. On a whim I ordered the will of a Thomas Shepherd of Montgomery Co., NY and hit a genealogical jackpot: TWO of Thomas' children are my 3rd-great grandparents because their children married each other (first cousin marriage). So, here's a new pedigree and a new question: Was there a pattern here? Was Mary Shepard, (1772-1826) wife of the Rev. William Wilson, perhaps a sister of Thomas Shepherd of Montgomery County? 3. Hello everyone, Diane, thank you very much for responding to the 'WARNING' message. The Cemetery Records at the Onondaga County USGenWeb site are incomplete, and we are working as fast as we can, at getting as much useful information at the web site as possible. There are just a few of us continuous volunteers, and we all have full time jobs. The Cemetery Records are taken from many different sources, from Beauchamp's from the early 1900's to tombstone readings in the early 1900's. There are also what I consider the best records at the site, which are the ones that Kathy Crowell and Sue Goodfellow have worked on, which include, to the best of their knowledge, up to date information. This is definitely our desired state. As Diane stated, if you have information that you know needs to be added to the site, please let me know. I'll be more than happy to add it for you! This site is there for all of us to use and also for all of us to add to, whether it be a will, a family letter, a biography, a marriage announcement, your genealogy, cemetery records, etc. etc. Take a look at the site, and please let me know if you would like to contribute. Lucie, if you would like, please let me know the information about your Grandmother so I can add it for you. Thanks!
