Hello Lists, I am trying to confirm information that I have found regarding George ASHPOLE and his family. George (b. 1800 in England, d. 1875) and his wife, Susan ADAMS (b. 1803 in England, d. 1851 or after 1855), arrived from Huntingdonshire, England in 1829. Along with them was a son William (b. 1826 in England, d. 1907) and a daughter Catherine (b. 1828 in England). They first settled in Auburn, Cayuga County. George was in the 1830 census for Auburn (There was enumerated 1 male under 5, 1 male between 20 & 30, 1 female under 5, and 1 female between 20 & 30.) George and Susan had the following children in New York: 1) a son, George R. ASHPOLE, born 4 December 1830 in Cayuga County. He married Mary D. "Polly" DeWITT about 1855. Mary is the daughter of Jacob C. and Mary DeWITT. George R. died 14 December 1862 and is buried in Lakeview Cemetery in Skaneateles, Onondaga County. They had 4 daughters, Mary A. and Josephine in 1856, Imogene in 1857, and Georgie Ellen in 1860. Josephine died in 1856 and Georgie Ellen died in 1861. They are buried in Lakeview Cemetery. Mary A. married Henry ABERCROMBY in 1877 (Marriage listed in the 12 July 1877 edition of the Skaneateles Democrat.) and Imogene married Edgar HAIGHT about 1878. 2) a daughter, Susan A. ASHPOLE, born in 1837 in Cayuga County. I believe Susan married George WICKHAM in 1862, but I have not yet found a marriage record for them. There is a Susan, wife of George WICKHAM, that fits in the 1870 census. 3) a daughter, Sarah N. ASHPOLE, born 29 December 1839 in Cayuga County. Sarah died on 8 September 1840 and is buried in North Street Cemetery, Auburn, Cayuga County. 4) a daughter, Mary E. ASHPOLE, born about 1842 in Onondaga County. I have no information on her after the 1860 census with her parents in Niles, Cayuga County. I have found that all ASHPOLE's in New York are related to two families from England; 1) George and Susan, and 2) Thomas and Esther EDWARDS (They immigrated in 1832). If anyone has information on the above families, I would be very pleased to receive it. I also have additional information that I would share. Loretta Welsh Boring, Oregon USA
Can anyone tell if any Schmerhorn - Schommerhorn - Schermerhorns are present in Onondaga Co. - John was present at Manlius in 1835. Help ! Jack
Hi: I need help in locating an obituary for my 3rd great grandmother Alice (Maiden name Clifton) Barnet wife of, John Barnet. Alice died 17March1877 in NY. Onondaga Co. or maybe Cayuga Co. John and Alice Barnet’s children and spouses: Robert Barnet h/o Ann Williams, Hannah Barnet w/o George Deline, Rebecca Barnet w/o Joel Foster, Sarah Barnet w/o Lester Young. I have looked at all the on-line cemetery records for Onondaga Co. and Cayuga Co., NY. John Barnet’s newspaper obituary from the Buda Plain Dealer, Bureau Co IL states that his wife died in NY and had lived together 58 years. After the death of his wife John moved to Bureau Co. IL to live with his children. Thanks for the help [email protected] Hazel White in California
A big Thank You to all who answered by question about Liverpool Cemetery's whereabouts! Especially Mr. Palmer: your directions were great. My grandson and I went there today and even though it is quite large, we DID find my Chillingworth's and my Miller's. I was very happy to see how well kept it is. Now that I know exactly how to get there, I will visit often. Thanks, again! Carol
Slight correction, the Cemetery on Henry Clay Road, near the Rt. 31 intersection in the Town of Clay is Pine Plains Cemetery (not Pine Grove Cemetery). Happy 4th! Anne

That would put the Liverpool [village] Cemetery in the town of Clay. Two points: 1) The village cemetery is indeed bounded by Tulip, Sixth, Alder and fifth Streets. It is, however, less than 1/2 mile from Johnson park. 2) There is a cemetery at the corner of Route-31 and Henry Clay Blvd (IPine Grove Cemetery) that also has numerous Liverpudlians buried. It is NOT, however, the Liverpool Cemetery in question! Carol, According to the NYGenWeb page for Onondaga County: "Salina, North Tulip St., 4 mi. from Johnson Park - bound by Tulip, Sixth, Alder, Fifth Strs. Active Incorp. Cemetery, TF: 1810 Contact: Liverpool Cem. Assn. No. Tulip St. Liverpool, NY 13088" Heid's is at the junction of Onondaga Lake Parkway, Old Liverpool Road, and a few other streets if I recall correctly. From Heid's, you would go west on what may or may not still be called Old Liverpool Road there. I think you would see Tulip St. going off to your right before you get to Rt. 57, but I'm not positive, as I haven't lived in Liverpool since early 1986. There is an online listing of burials for this cemetery, and it includes CHILLINGWORTH, MILLER, and a few MEYER: <http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Enyononda/CEMETERY/liverpoolvillage.html> -- Mary Taffet Syracuse, NY [email protected] Carol Bain wrote: > > Can anyone please tell me the location of the Liverpool Cemetery? Hello List: I'm new to this list, having just joined today.I am interested in the above named and related families. My 2x greatgrandfather Rev. Nicholas Hurst ( Methodist ) born Ireland, died in Brewerton in 1868 and was buried in Riverside Cemetery. His widow Christiana and children can be located on the 1870 census in Cicero shortly before they returned to Essex County, Ontario, Canada. It is Nicholas' sister and her family that I am at present most interested in, as they remained in Cicero. Mary ( nee Hurst ) Telford b. Ireland 1816 died Nov 29 1902.married a John Telford ( 1806 - 1884 ). Their children: George ( m. Rachel Randall ), Robert, William ( m. an Elizabeth ), Thomas ( m. Marilla Hoyt ), Sarah ( m. Cicero Walker ), Fannie Matilda, John ( m. Rosa Tabor ), Fannie Matilda 2nd. and Mary. Any information at all is sought for these people. In particular, an obit for Mary Hurst Telford who died Nov 29 1902. She and many others mentioned are also buried in the Riverside Cemetery in Brewerton. I would love to make contact with any descendants as well. Other Hurst families also emigrated from Ireland to the Syracuse area in the 1830s. Cheers, Violet
Hi, friends, I wanted to share a very interesting German index with you that is new to me: International Genealogical Index (IGI) entries (at Familysearch.org) sorted by German Town Names (Batch Numbers) - http://igi.wahler.org/ Click on the British flag and it takes you to a version of the index with enough English to get you around. This index will link you to IGI Batch number entries by town, which is eye-opening if you are researching several families in a known German location. Cheers, Michelle Stone "German Immigrant Ancestors in Syracuse & Onondaga County, New York" http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~mstone/

Lot 54 would be the lot number in the town where the property was located: town of Onondaga, town of Lysander, town of Geddes, etc. A search of the Family History Library catalog entries for Onondaga County, New York at http://www.familysearch.org shows that deed records in book CC were created in 1822-23 and will be found on microfilm #870727. Book U deed records were created 1815-1819 and will be found on microfilm #870723 Hope this helps. Diane Wilson Flynn
