    3. Does any one know anything about David Hall who died Sept. 6, 1816? He was listed on the Onondaga County Deaths (MSS) 1733-1913. This was all the info given. I'm searching for the parents of a Great Grandfather, Isaac Hall, born June 19, 1916 in Cicero. The family story is that his father died when he was an infant. Any help would really be appreciated. Thanks, Fleta Forquer

    3. It has been a long time since I placed a query on this list regarding my search for my unknown cousins. The ROSE family is prominent in early Syracuse history and the Oakwood Cemetery has a significant number of my ancestors in the oldest part of the cemetery. I live in the Cleveland, Ohio area and have only been to Syracuse one time (1993) and had a very stimulating experience when participating in a tour of the old portion of the cemetery - finding numerous of my family graves. If any of you are descendants of that line - please contact me. BTW, my branch also includes the DeWitt lineage. Dick Rose

    1. Scott surname from Syracuse
    2. Diane Sweeney Groman
    3. Hi Jack- I noticed your SCOTT surname and wondered if you have any Scott ancestry from Syracuse? I am researching a Peter Scott, b ca 1860-1870 in Co Mayo Ireland. Peter married a Margaret Berrane Byron Birrane... about 1891. I believe they married in Massachusetts, and one child John P ,was born there in 1893. Another child, Anna E (named after Margt sister Anna Eliz Berrane, who married Martin SWEENEY in 1887 Syracuse) was born in NY in 1895. Apparently Peter died, as Margt appears in Syracuse with her 2 children in 1908.They were living with Patrick and Ellen EGAN. Ellen was also a sister of Margaret and Anna Byron Berrane. They were all born in Co Mayo as well. I don't believe the daughter Anna ever married. John P did marry, I believe, to a Marian. They had a Dawn A Scott, b 1927. There may have een a son Walter, but I may be wrong on that. I would love to connect with some Scott, Berrane, Egan or Sweeneys from Syracuse. The Sweeney line is from Crossmolina, Co Mayo Ireland. I would also love any info on Peter and family, as they see so elusive! 3. Graham, I noticed that HOLMES is one of the families you are researching. I am searching for information about the JOHN HOLMES family that lived in Onondaga County during the 1830's and 1840's and perhaps earlier. They are in IL in the 1850 Census. John HOLMES and wife, Mary Furze were born in England...don't know when they arrived in US. All of their children report being born in NY. My grgrandmother, Sarah Ann HOLMES, was born in 1838 in Splitrock, Onondaga, NY. Is there any connection to your HOLMES? 1. Re: [NYOnonda] 1981 Newspapers
    2. Mary D. Taffet
    3. Denise, I'm not sure that a search of the newspapers would help you. Those items aren't published without permission of the parents (at least from what I can remember when my son was born in 1987). If the child was given up for adoption from the moment of birth, then I seriously doubt there would have been ANYTHING in the paper. But I could be wrong. The Syracuse paper isn't online earlier than 1986 from what I can remember of the catalog at Syracuse University, so it would have to be a search of the paper itself. And the best place to accomplish that would be at the Onondaga County Public Library's main branch in the Galleries. My son was born in October of 1987, but the blurb about his birth that appeared in the paper was almost a month later. So IF an item did appear in the newspaper, it would probably require a manual search of multiple issues of the paper since the announcement could have showed up any day for several months after birth. I don't know of any index to those items in the paper. -- Mary D. 3. Hello all: Since Tim is on the road I figured what better time to one-up him (just kidding) and announce that I have posted a new reading of the Erieville Cemetery in the Town of Nelson, Madison County. This reading is based on the work of Mike Marris in 2001, with comparison to the old 1915 list of interments. http://www.geocities.com/ofvoyager/ErievilleCemetery2001.htm There is now record of more than 1,500 people in this great cemetery and I am adding it to my massive data base of all known burials in Cazenovia, Fenner and Nelson (at least 15,000 names, in 60 cemeteries, most of which are posted on my web pages.) Go to my main page: http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyccazen/ Scroll down to the "What's New" link or to the Cemetery Transcripts link, and follow from there. Happy Holidays! Dan W.
