The only penitentiary I know of in or at least near Syracuse was the Jamesville Penitentiary. The old building still stands, but there is a new facility built on the east side of the property to house inmates from Onondaga County presently. I do not believe that Jamesville was ever a state facility. To the best of my knowledge, Jamesville has always been a county facility. The nearest state correctional institution would be (and would have been Auburn). Perhaps Alanson Mott committed his crimes in Onondaga County? The County Penitentiary was locted on Syracuse's north side behind and kitty corner to Assumption Currch & School, Etc., plus or minus. Jamesville was buit sometime aftr 1902.
