I am searching for information about my ancestor WILLIAM SALTAR, who lived his final years with his daughter Sarah S. Mappa, in Trenton/Oldenbarnveld in the Mappa House (that is still standing.) He was born in Freehold, NJ in 1757, and died in 1853. WILLIAM, according to Stillwell's, Historical and Genealogical Miscellany, moved to Utica where he was an officer in the branch of the U.S. Bank. (I can't find any record of such.) In 1796, he and his father, Joseph Saltar, with others were appointed to attend to the lands of the Indians appointed to them. In 1801, near Oneida Lake, WILLIAM and two other men were appointed Commissioners to sell their lands. (I have found no record of this, either.) WILLIAM was the brother-in-law of Benjamin Walker, Baron von Steuben's aide and adopted son. One of his daughters married John Mappa and another married Asa Bill Sizer, Samuel Sizer's son. His wife Sarah died and was buried in Rome. With all this information, I still can't find any reference to WILLIAM's occupation, where he lived before joining his daughter in Trenton, etc.. If in your research, you have come across anything about WILLIAM SALTAR, I would appreciate hearing from you about it. Thanks in advance. Alice Pryor
