    3. Gregg, If you live in Albany, you are likely to find census records on microfilm at the NY State Library. If not, take a short drive east to Pittsfield, Massachusetts, and visit the National Archives depository there (off Route 20, near Super Stop & Shop, a few miles south of the center of town). You'll find all of the federal census records for the entire country there, and volunteers will help you find what you want. Call ahead (413) 445-6885 for hours of operation, and for travel directions. They are open some Saturdays. It would also help if you know in advance which ward of the city you are looking in. The Social Security Death Index does not include everyone. My father (d. 1947) is not on it. I am told this is because he left minor children who received survivors' benefits. I suspect also that deaths may not be listed if families never applied for the SS death benefit, or if the deceased never worked or applied for a Social Security number. Good luck!
