It was an institution for those considered mentally retarded and was located just a little ways outside the then Rome City limits. Additionally, and these may have been satellite homes, there were seemingly private homes in Rome where such persons were housed. I can still recall seeing the men sitting on the porch of a large home. Whether the homes were owned by the State School or private individuals I don't know. Insofar as I can recall these apparently private homes were occupied only by men. G. M. Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii I was looking though the 1930 ONeida County census records this morning, when I found one of my names listed as follows. There was a page of women listed, and along side of it was written, "All inmates of Rome State School" So, what was this 'school'? The ages were in their 20's and up to the 60's. That was all that was written there. Hope someone can help with this. The name I was working on was Cornelia Betsinger, I'm trying to trace her life. And ideas? Thanks, Linda ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! Surf the web up to FIVE TIMES FASTER!
