"Lee Center Dec. 29. After a most painful and lingering illness of more than six months, John H. Evans Passed away Tuesday, morning at 5 oclock. Mr. Evans was born 72 years ago last February near the old village of Delta. On December 20, 1877, he was married to Mary Eliza Pitcher of Martinsburg. Starting housekeeping in what was known as the red house near the old homestead, they lived there for three years, then moved to Lee Center the Eames farm remaining there for one year, before moving to the farm a short distance west of the village where they resided for 38 years. Here their two children were born, William L. Evans of Washington D. C. and Mrs. Clyde Felshaw of this village both whom survive. About twelve years ago, Mr. Evans gave up farming and came to the village to live a retired life He first took up his residence on the corner near the cheese factory subsequently moving to his home on upper South street, where the remainder of life was spent. Mr. Evans was a man who enjoyed the highest confidence and esteem of his neighbors, in the village and the surrounding community, and his death removes a worthy and highly respected citizen He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church since his early youth and for many years was the leader of the choir, and Bible class teacher in Sunday school. His death is regretted by many friends, who will at this time extend sincere sympathy to the sorrowing relatives." [1925 Obit Rome, NY Newspaper] - G. M.
