I'm trying to find some information on my maternal gg-grandparents, Edward H Cassidy and Julia (Halligan) Cassidy, who lived in Irish Ridge, Town of Verona, Oneida County, NY. Edward arrived in this country around the latter half of 1850 and seems to have pretty much stayed in Irish Ridge for the rest of his life. The earliest info I have on Edward is the 1860 US Census where he was apparently living with what I guess to be his brother. They ultimately lived on farms next to each other in Irish Ridge. Based on headstones at the Irish Ridge cemetery, where the two Cassidy brothers are buried, my grandmother speculated that they might be from Kings County (present day County Offaly) since a lot of immigrants tended to congregate together with folks from the “old neighborhood.” I have even less info on Julia. According to family, her maiden name was Halligan but I have been unable to find Halligans in or around Oneida County in the US Censuses. She seems to first appear on the 1870 US Census when she’s been Edward’s wife of approximately seven years. I believe that my grandmother tried to find some records through the church but only found some records on the children. Since Edward was naturalized, I am assuming that he would have submitted his paperwork through Utica but haven’ t had a chance to get back up there to find out.
