LUCINDA SPINNING OF LEE CENTER She Was Ninety-Four Years Old and the Daughter of a Revolutionary Soldier -- Resident of Lee Center From Childhood --A Kind and Charitable Woman LEE CENTER Sept. 6. - Lucinda Spinning died at 3:30 this morning at the residence of her son, Curtis Spinning aged 94 years. She was born In Columbia, Tolland county, Conn., August 17, 1801, and was one of seven children of Josiah Dewey who was born in Lebanon, Windham county, Conn., in 1759 being of the fourth generation of Josiah Dewey, who was born in Windsor Conn., in 1640. Mrs. Spinning's father was a soldier in the revolutionary war. When quite young the deceased came with her father's family in an ox cart and settled in Lewis county, in this state. On Nov. 19, [1819], she was married, in Lee, to Roswell F. Spinning, who was born in Lee, September 17, 1794. Mrs. Spinning was the mother of three children, Curtis, who, was born July 8,1822, Jay, born October 20, 1827, and a son who died infancy. In 1830 her husband purchased a farm in the western part of this town now owned by R. Willett Stedman, where she lived till 1884 when she with her son removed to this village and has lived here since. She was a Christian in the full sense and for years a prominent member of the M. E. Church. She was noted for her kindness of heart where help was needed. She assisted largely with her means in the erection of the handsome M. E. Church here, which she has helped to a very great extent to maintain. Her daily life was controlled by charity she being greatly interested in foreign missions and for many years an annual contributor to several a charitable institutions for the friendless of the city of New York. She had been very active for one her age till a few days ago when gradually declined and died without apparent disease. Her funeral was held in the M. E. Church at 11 A. M. Monday. The remains were deposited in the Hall cemetery, beside those of her husband, who died Sept. 14, 1870 Rev., J. R.
