They knew that they could not charge the $125 that they first indicated to us, this spring. So to get around that, they charge $75 for the Pension, $25 for the Land Bounty Warrant and $25 for the Service record. Keeping the service record separate from the Pension is miserable to think about. The service record is important. This is how siblings, brother-in-laws etc are found. I went to Washington, DC in July and took a list of about 50 service men for Rev. War, War 1812 and Civil War. The compiled military service record has always been separate from the pension files. They usually don't contain information of genealogical value. While these new fees are expensive, they really aren't out of line with the cost for the manpower, supplies and postage used to create the file copies.
