    3. Me again, Mrs Elizabeth Wyher -- that's the last name of one of the families who adopted one of Nicholas Allison's sons -- didn't name him in the last request. The name of the other family who adopted a son was Freislich. Some time ago, I found an announcement of an Oswald-Freislich wedding and saved it for both names because Elizabeth Knittle Wunsch, widow of Leopold Wunsch, married an Oswald and she is buried in St. Mary's Cemetery with a marker which gives only her name and dates. There was a son by that marriage. By the way, have you heard that St. Mary's and St. Peter's will be merging? The Diocese of Syracuse is closing a number of churches and merging other. The Diocese of Burlington here is going the same thing. I've forgotten what the average age of the Priests are but, because of need, Priest in their 80's are still active. There are only one or two ordinations a year now. 3. The Catholic church merges are happening all over the country. Find out what the dioceses are doing with the records, and whether you and other descendants will have ready access. Speak up now, or the records may be locked away in a dusty basement. Church leaders have a lot on their minds right now, and if parishioners, descendants and researchers don't speak out, the records could disappear from view--or disappear altogether. Some of us interested in the records of an Illinois parish contacted the church official in charge of the records in a distant city. We corresponded with her by email, expressed our reasons for wanting access to the records, and (we think!) stimulated her interest in preserving our ancestors' records. She did promise to personally supervise their cataloging and storage.
