On a side note to the topic about the Panama Canal, My Great Grandfather (from Clinton/Essex County)and his family are listed as arriving at Ellis Island in 1913 from Colon, Panama. I don't know the occasion of the trip, vacation or otherwise, but I think that he may have been checking out the Canal for a possible construction bid. He had previously worked on the construction of the New York State Capitol and the repairs after the 1911 fire. Off topic, but allow a man his boasts, won't you? Mike
