I am not sure what time frame the road may have been named, but if Mullaney was the prominent family name on a particular road it may have been named after them. If Mullaney was the only settler on the road, the name may followed on from that. It may also have been shear coincidence. A way to check would be to find land ownership maps from the 1850-1870's and see if any Mullaney's are listed on the road. You will probably need a current map to locate the same road on the older maps to do this.
