    3. Shirley, Many of the federal military records relating to WWI were lost in fire in 1973. However, before they were lost, NY State made abstracts which are now available from the NY State Archives in Albany (Record Series B0808). The Archives will do searches for a small fee. The application form is on their website. Unlike the NY Dept of Health, the turnaround time is quite good. He is listed on Ancestry in the servicemen from Oneida county as Pvt US Marines Utica. Is there anyone in that area who would be able to get me information on him? I have tried the National Archives and since I don't have his service number they can't seem to find him. I know he was born in or around Franklin Springs in 1900. I will gladly pay for any paper work.
