Karen, You should write for a birth record to the NY State Dept of Health in Albany. The forms are on their internet site. You can access it throught the NY Genealogical and Biographical Society page at www.nygbs.org. It may take the state 6 months to answer, but they do have certificates beginning around 1880. As for Catholic churches, I'm not a local resident, but I think you might just try looking them up in the phone listings for Camden. I doubt there are many parishes in Camden. To get more background on them, try The Official Catholic Directory--a annual reference book that is available in many larger libraries. It should tell you the names and history of current parishes. Is there also a township of Camden where records could be. Are they likely to be held at the county level? Have I missed some way of researching them. I am open to all suggestions. I am also interested in learning if there was a large Italian community in Camden NY in the late 1800's and what it was like. Are there any catholic churches in Camden in the late 1800's that would have an Italian population? the family I am researching ran a small "sweets" or candy store under the name of Joe MEE. Thank you , members, for the help and I appreciate your time.
