I must agree. The roll call is more than I need. I have checked the surname boards and if you want people to find you, post your surnames there. I subscribe to 4 counties (because research is in area that was in 3 counties in a 10 year span). I get 100 emails a day for the roll call. Do you know what it's like to see that many and for items that folks can find if they do some research. (Isn't that what genealogy is all about!) I agree that the roll call has a brief purpose but there must be another way to achieve the same results (one compiled list somewhere; idea, how about a place for surnames only) . If it continues much longer, I'm gonna unsubscribe and then what purpose will that serve. If you've noticed the miss-addressed emails many have started leaving already. List owners, how do these effect list size. Do they drive away more people than they help?
