I too had been searching for Litchfield, NY and had found one in Tioga Co. near the PA border. E-mail with experts there showed that this Litchfield is, in fact, in Bradford Co., PA, not in NY, even though various map programs showed it in NY. There is a Litchfield in NY, which did not show up on map programs, in Herkimer Co. It is Litchfield township, and the Herkimer Co. web site has a page on Herkimer County Place Names, including Litchfield township, [http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyherkim/hplaces.html]. A page is also provided on the town of Litchfield itself, formed from German Flatts in 1796. It also states that may early settlers came directly to the frontier of Litchfield from CT and other New England states.
