HI Jo, my wife, momin law and myself were just in Utica doing research last week on her Pfeifer roots and got a lot of great information. Some suggestions: Utica public library: 303 Genesee st, Utica 13501 Oneidea county Historical society: 1608 Genesee st, Utica Hrs 10-4:30 Tues thru Fri. $5 admission fee to use library,staffed with volunteers. They will make copies for 25 cents a copy. Deed and Mortgage records datin back to 1791. limited amount of vital statistics for 1847-50. There is a fee for searching deeds and mortages but searching their vital statistics is free. The Naturalization office is also in the bldg. 315-7985778. Oneida county court house: Elizabeth st, 315-7985866. 9-5 , m-f. Has surrogate records back to 1791. Utica bureau of vital statistics: 406 Elizabeth st. 315-7380218. Birth and Death records from 1874. You should try the NYGENWEB to get to Oneida county"S website. Lots of good information there. You might have trouble getting vital statistics from the era you are looking for. On the website, there are a list of all the newspapers that were published over the years and what records may be available. Hope this helps.
