    1. [NYONEIDA-L] WILLIAM SALTAR and THE MAPPA FAMILY
    2. Has anyone run across these names in their research? William Saltar and his four children came to Utica from New Jersey in early 1800. His wife, Sarah, was in poor health and stayed in New Jersey. A source (Stillwell's Historical and Genealogical Miscellany) said he was with the USBank, but the bank has no such records. The same source said he represented the government in Indian negotiations. I can't find anything else written to that effect. One of his daughters, Mary Walker Saltar, married Asa Bill Sizer, son of Samuel Sizer of Steuben who came to the area representing the Baron. His brother-in-law was Benjamin Walker, who was Baron Steuben's aide, adopted son, and executor of his estate. Two daughters married into the Mappa family and Wm. Saltar lived his last years in the Mappa House with Sophia Mappa, his daughter, and died in 1850 and is buried in the Trenton/Oldenbarnveld cemetery. I am particularly interested in knowing what Wm. Saltar lived before Mappa House and what he did for a living. If anyone knows a descendant of the Mappas, maybe they have some information about our mutual ancestor. Alice Pryor
