Hook Palmer resident Marion Katherine Hook, 85, died of cancer Aug. 1, 1999, at home. As per he wishes, Mrs. Hook was creemated. Kehl's Funeral Home handled the arrangements. A Mass will be held 7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 20, 1999 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Palmer. Mrs. Hook was born Feb. 28, 1914, to George Edward Kier and Mary Elizabeth Casey in New York City. She grew up in New York City. She atended Geroge Washington High School in Bronx, N.Y. After high school, she graduated from the Ballard School with a diploma in licensed practical nursing. She married Arnold Hook of Bronx, N.Y., on Feb. 24, 1935. After her marriage, she lived in New York City, later moving to New Jersey. She and her husband had three children: Colette, Arnold and Robert. In 1962 she and her family moved to Westernville in upstate New York, where she worked as a licensed practical nurse for the Rome, N.Y., hospital. Her husband died in 1986. In 1992, she sold her home in Westernville, N.Y., and moved to Alaska to live with her daughter and son-in-law. Here family recalls "her sweet little smile, her good nature, her patience, her wise counsel and her unselfish, generous giving of herself to all who have passed her way. She was all of these things, and more. We are sad today becuase she is gone from our lives, but then she will always remain strong in our hears and memories as we rember the wonderful, caring and loving pers." Mrs. Hook is survived by her daugher, Colette Hook Grower of Palmer; son, Arnold Hook of New York; son-in-law, Harland Grower of Palmer; daughter-in law, Andrea Abbott Hook of New York; brother Kenneth Kier of Florida; grandchildren, Eileen Grower, Robert Grower, Jerry Grower, Ian Hook and Nicholas Hook; nieces and nephes, Kenneth Kier, Kathryn Kier, Karen Kier Obert, Jan Marie Kier Bartlett, Linda Kier Hertler, Lu Kier Sickles, Susan Kier Merrihew and Lary Kier, and numerous cousins from both the Casey family and the Kier family. She was preceded in death by her son Robert Hook in 1972, her husband Arnold Hook in 1986, and her brother and sister-in-law, George and Jeanette Kier. During the last week of September, mrs. Hook's daughter Colette Grower, and her son-in-law Harland Grower, will transport her remains to Rome, N.Y. A second Mass will be scheduled during the first week of October, at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Rome, N.Y. Family and friends will be present for the burial. She will be laid to rest in the Rome, N.Y. Cemetery, next to her husband. In liew of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the National Cancer Society or Hosptice of Mat-Su.
