Deceased was born in Wittenberg, Germany, on the 18th day of January 1791, and was therefore in hi 91st year. He, as a soldier, fought under Napoleon I, also against that emperor on the side of the allies. He was with Napoleon in his disastrous campaign in Moscow, and saw that city burned. Out of 180 Germans in his company on 18 returned alive, and many of them were wounded and sick. Mr. Grower was in the war six years,fought in thrity-six battles, was wounded once--at Waterloo under Napoleon. Mr. G. came to the U.S. in 1831 and settled in Cape Vincent, in this State, where he resided until 1874, when he came to live with his son at this place. He leaves 4 children, 26 grand children and 17 great-grandchildren.
