My grandfather often spoke of his "Grandpa Meacham," his mother's stepfather. According to the obituary of my 2nd great grandmother, Alvira (Van Etta) Harrison Meacham, who was from Canajoharie and Ft. Plain but died in Utica on 20 August 1930, Alvira (whose father Lewis Van Etta had been an Erie Canal boatman in Canajoharie) had married broommaker Richard Harrison in 1864, had three daughters by him, was widowed in 1879, and in 1895 married Joseph Meacham. I believe Meacham worked at the Savage Arms in Utica, which was where most of my family worked. Meacham died 3 February 1918. He was not my blood relative, but my grandfather told me some things about him and I have his photo, if any Meacham researcher should have any interest. It is my understanding that he had no children by Alvira.
