Colleen Can't help you with your brick wall but have an opinion on the exodus from Floyd. Floyd was settled in large part by New Englanders migrating here after the Rev. As most of the settlers seem to have been farmers and the town is not the best farming area due to clayey soil and topographical conditions, expansion of the family farm would have been severely restricted. I would assume that as the children (those born between 1800 and 1830 or so) married, they would have to migrate west to find cheaper, more abundant lands. My ancestors came from Conn. and Mass. to Floyd and a lot of the next generation moved west to Ill., Michigan, Minnesota etc. between 1840 and 1880.
