Donna, I found a W. Hicks in Marshall, Oneida Co., NY in 1850 in the index. There were no Crays in all of Oneida Co. at least not on the index. The index is not perfect. I have found people in the census that were not on the index or names were mispelled so they weren't easy to find in the index. I checked for various spellings of Cray that I could think of. I did find one John Gray in 1850 but he was in Lee, not Marshall. In the 1860 census there were no Hicks in Marshall listed. There were no Crays in Oneida county listed. There were two John Grays but not in Marshall. I have access to the 1850 Oneida Co., NY census and will look the Hicks family up if you want me to.
