    1. [NYONEIDA] Collins marriage record
    2. Harguess, Dale
    3. I would like to find a marriage record of an Alfred Collins married to an Elizabeth (Betsy) ? in about 1853. Alfred was from Verona and they continued to live there for the next 30 years or so. I am trying to find Elizabeth's maiden name if possible. They could have married as early as 1850 but didn't have their first child until 1854. Thank you, Dale in California

    3. Laura: Thank you for the info. I have been in contact with the DAR and I have quite a bit of family "info", but I Always look forward to seeing another book/printing regarding Amos Sr and Amos Jr. Do you know if the book you have mentioned is available for purchase? I know that Amos Jr. was active in the community and served as town supervisor at two different times and I know that Amos Sr. was in the Rev. War. I think the reason that Amos Jr. was buried in Oswego is that he was living with one of his children at the time of his death and they lived there, but I haven't found his wife's marker yet (Matilda Rice Woodworth). Her father, Eber Rice, (also my gr gr gr gr grandfather) was in the Rev. War, too! So far, I have verified 5 ancestors with the DAR and I am hoping to connect to more! Thanks again for the help. Esteemed Methodist Clergyman Who comes to Utica from Watertown. Rev D. F. Pierce D.D. who comes to this city from Watertown. Presiding elder of the Utica District --- Methodist Clergymen in the Northern Conference. For the past six years he has been pastor of the Arsenal Street Church in Watertown going to that church from Utica where he had been presiding elder for four years. Thus in returning to the Utica District he comes back to familiar churches and to old friends, who will mix and sincerely welcome him. Prior to his filling his first charge, he was presiding elder in this district. He was continued for 5 years in Rome where he was pastor of the First M. E. Church. He also preached for a time in Ilion and Herkimer and had filled many important chairs in the conference. *  Rev. Dr. Pierce is a delightful gentleman and a most earnest Christian worker. His ministerial career has been uniformly successful. He is a powerful and convincing teacher and readily gains the good will and enthusiastic cooperation of his congregation. He establishes at once a bond of sympathy between himself and the people to whom he ministers and thus multiplies himself as an agency for good. He is a D.A.R. man, being a veteran of the civil war in which he served as a soldier and every pin__ in which he has served the "boys in blue" have been his friends. In Watertown deep regret has been publicly expressed over his departure. But what is Watertown's loss is Utica's gain and Rev. Dr. Pierce will be warmly welcomed here. His home in Utica will be 21 Brinkerhoff Avenue. ================================================  My notes: Rev. 3. Carol, I have no information on where Amos Woodworth is buried or any land records and you may have the information below, found through Heritage Quest, but I'm sending it just in case you don't. I came across his name in a book titled, "Military Minutes of Council of Appointment of State of New York 1783-1832," Annual Report, Oneida County: Sixty-eight Regiment of Infantry, Ensign, Amos Woodworth Annals of Oneida County: Florence: The settlement was commenced in the fall of 1801. At this time Amos Woodworth, father of the Hon. Amos Woodworth now residing in the town, settled within about half a mile of its north line. According to what I read, he and 2 others were offered by William Henderson, NY, a bonus of fifty acres of land if they settled there in Florence. All three took the offer. Florence Hill is a hamlet of Florence and he may have settled in that area. Hope this helps find his location. Laura PNUTREG@cs.com wrote: Hi Carol You mention that your Amos Woodworth D abt 1791 and was in Florence NY. Oneida County was not formed until 1798 when it was taken from Herkimer County NY. Florence was not formed until 1805 when it was taken from the Town of Camden, Camden NY was not formed until 1799. You might want to do a little more in depth research to establish a closer DOD for Amos SR before trying to locate his burial location. First I would try to locate Land Records for Amos Woodworth SR to establish an exact Date of his arrival in the area and possible purchase of Land.. If Amos Sr did not purchase Land perhaps Amos Jr did and he could be buried on his property. Depending on finding his DOD you might have to check both Herkimer and Oneida County Records. In addition you might want to check for a Will or a Probate Record at the County Court House. Both of the above records could give you a great deal of information. Another source would be Military Records for Amos Sr. Depending on his DOB he could of served in the Service. If you are unable to go to the above archives or contact them during the day time hours I would suggest the oldest way of researching which is "Snail Mail" that existed long before the computer days. It is still a good way to collect informaion and also give you the Date of your request and a copy for your records for follow ups. Sometimes it is the only approach as many archives do not respond to telephone calls nor answer email requests. It does take a little longer, but one must emember "good Genealogy is not fast" and Fast Genealogy is not good". Give the above a try and see what you might come up with. 3. I can think of two things you might try to find the grave of your Revolutionary ancestor - one, contact the DAR to see if the have it listed; two go to your library and ask for ''The Abstract of Graves of Revolutionary Patriots". The last is not easy to do, as many libraries don't carry it or carry only the index, which means then traveling to another library, usually one connected to a university. good luck. Jessie

    1. Re: [NYONEIDA] Old Burial on "someone's" property
    2. Hello Again Carol Further searching shows that the LDS does have the Land Records for Oneida County on Microfilm and they can be obtained for searching at your closest Family History Center. I note that it also includes the Early Herkimer County Deeds from 1791 and of course if their Date of arrival or purchase was prior to that Date, they would fall under Montgomery County Deeds which are also on Microfilm by the LDS starting at 1772. So that might be a good approach to take. Deeds, 1791-1901 (Oneida County, New York) Authors Oneida County (New York). County Clerk (Main Author) Notes Microfllm of original records in the Oneida County Courthouse, Utica, New York. Includes index. Also includes early deeds of Herkimer County for 1791-1798. Hope this helps you, Pat R

    3. Unfortunately, a disastrous fire in 1834 destroyed the Herkimer County Court House and all the legal/official records. The only legal records remaining are those that have been reconstructed from records held in the hands of individuals (precious few). The Herkimer County Historical Society may have something but most of their collection is centered on the towns that are currently within the county's borders Steve -----Original Message----- From: nyoneida-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:nyoneida-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of PNUTREG@cs.com Sent: Monday, April 23, 2007 11:43 PM To: nyoneida@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [NYONEIDA] Old Burial on "someone's" property Hi Carol You mention that your Amos Woodworth D abt 1791 and was in Florence NY. 3. Thanks, Dale: But I have my lineage back to Walter Woodworth b. 1610 d. 1685 all the way to my Dad. I would really like to know if someone in Oneida County has ever heard anything about the property where Amos is buried. I may be able to get some info from the Town of Florence Clerk's Office. The trouble is, I work from 8 - 4:30 in Syracuse and I don't believe any of the town clerk's offices are open on the weekend! If I don't hear from anyone on the list with any specifics, I'll try calling them. 3. Hi List! I have a dilema and am hoping that somone on this list might be able to help me. I want to find the burial place of my gr gr gr gr grandfather, Amos Woodworth. He was born before 1749 in Connecticut and he died sometime after 1791and I believe it was in the Town of Florence, Oneida County. His son (Amos, also) who was my gr gr gr grandfather was a town supervisor in the Town of Florence twice from what the records say. I was told that he (Amos Jr.) was buried in the Fruit Valley area of Oswego in a cemetery on Cemetery Road. I went there Sunday and I am very happy to have found his tombstone. However, Amos (senior), I believe is buried in the Camden area in someone's field. My Great Aunt (Gladys Boardman-Amos) who has passed away, went to a man's house in the Camden area and he let them go back into the field to see the stone. She put tracing paper on it and kept it, but no one seems to know what happened to that paper! Does anyone on this list know of a very old house that used to be the Woodworth property? My Dad (who is 85 now) went with her when she saw the stone, and he said that the man let them look threw the windows of an abandoned old house on the property and he told them that this was the Woodworth's home. I'm afraid that my Dad can't remember exactly where it was. I would really appreciate any help. I would love to know if the stone is still there and if I might be able to take a photo of it. Thanks! Carol Bain P.S. Amos (senior) was a Revolutionary War Veteran and it was through his name that my Great Aunt joined the DAR.

    3. Have you tried the Woodworth list? They might be able to help you with the parents. Dale Hi List! Does anyone on this list know of a very old! house that used to be the Woodworth property? My Dad (who is 85 now) went with her when she saw the stone, and he said that the man let them look threw the windows of an abandoned old house on the property and he told them that this was the Woodworth's home. I'm afraid that my Dad can't remember exactly where it was. I would really appreciate any help. I would love to know if the stone is still there and if I might be able to take a photo of it. Thanks!
