    3. I will answer the questions that I can in the order that you asked them. 1.You can determine the exact location if they owned the land. After finding the deed and getting the legal description of the land it should tell you which tract the land is on and what number. There are plat maps available at the County Records Center in Utica. I don't recall what years they are for. You could probably write and ask for a copy. Florence and Camden border each other but the lines would not have changed in that timeframe. Look at the Oneida Co. Genweb site for cemeteries http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyoneida/ 2. There are town vital records for 1847- 1850, many of those are on the Genweb site. 3. LDS has filmed many Oneida County records including land, probate, state census, military, church info. See their online catalog for exactly what they have. On 6/20/07, Frank Bax <fbax@sympatico.ca> wrote: > > First posting here. 1. Re: [NYONEIDA] Camden/Florence before 1870
    2. Frank, You have a few questions and these are just a few suggestions. To see where the family actually lived, could be determined by a looking for deeds in the Oneida County clerks office. The earliest land purchase by William, if there is one, would tell you when they may have arrived in the county. His subsequent land transaction may tell you when they moved, from Florence to Camden township. A check at the Onondaga county clerks office will show when they may have arrived and if they sold to move on. Directories/gazetteers may also list the family if they are available. I would not rule out searching the State of Michigan for them since may families migrated there from NY. Josepine's memebership at St Mary's by letter, should list the church in Syracuse. Record books at St Mary's should note this. I have seen other church records where admission by letter was followed by noting the preceeding church. If the Syracuse church is named the same can be done if the family was admitted by letter there. Chances are the family attended a Church in either the town of Florence or Camden. Hope these will help. I'm sure there other avenues to look into, these are just a few. Good luck with your search. 3. First posting here. Although I have done research for many years, none of it was in the USA (except contacting a few living distant cousins), so please feel free to state the obvious (to anyone else) about existing records, because I probably don't know about them. First the facts (as I know them), then the questions... I found the family of William and Ann James in 1850 and 1860 census in NY-Oneida. 1850 US Census - town of Florence William 42, Ann 39, Arthur 12, William E 9, John W 5, Charles R 2 1860 US Census - town of Camden; Florence Post Office William 53, Ann 51, Arthur J 22, Edwin J 18, John W 15, Charles R 13, Mary 8, Josephine 3. Census images available here: <http://www.execulink.com/%7Efbax/FamTree/James/>http://www.execulink.com/~fbax/FamTree/James/ Three children are married in St.Marys, ON, Canada in 1870's; birthplaces are noted as either NY state or Oneida, NY. It looks like the family was in Syracuse before they crossed the border because Josephine's membership in Baptist church in Ontario was transferred "by letter" from Syracuse. I did not find this family in either 1870 US or 1871 Canada census; but expect they should still be in USA. 1) Is it possible to determine a precise place of residence from the census? How? Is family in the same place in 1850 and 1860? I'd like to check nearby cemeteries, but I don't yet know what "nearby" means. 2) Are there any records for births (1838-1860) or marriage (before 1838) in Oneida? 3) What records might be available (Internet, LDS, etc) for further research in NY on this family? 4) Does anyone here happen to know anything about membership rolls of Baptist churches in Syracuse about 1870, or do I also need to join the Onondaga list for this question? Thanks, Frank

    2. Roy, Since Wright's Settlement was 3 miles from the city of Rome,I would start with the Rome Historical Society, located at 200 Church Street in Rome, NY 13440 or call them at 315-336-5870. I would ask them where the interment records are located. Hope this helps. 3. Hello Thank you all so very much for all your kind help. We have a reunion for my father's family MAZZEO/STEPPELLO on MULLANEY Road just off of Trenton in August. I can't seem to find a listing for a Historical Society or Library. 2. MULANEY Road is the correct spelling as I lived in Marcy on Flanagan Road for a number of years. Flanagan Road starts on Rte. 49 and ends on Mulaney Road. Now located on Mulaney Road is the upper division college of NY State. Dianne ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
