    3. I have not found Mr.Smith, Abigail and family together on a census that I can be certain of. My prime suspect family is on page 433 of the 1810 Oneida County census in what should be Western but no town name is given. Jared Olcott is nearby. I have never been able to find an original copy of the complete Oneida County census. That should have complete names but there doesn't seem to be one in existance. Norman is said in censuses to be born in NY. The State census for 1865 says that James was born in Oneida Co.. I found a record in the Surrogate's Court that caught my interest. It is an attestation of the death of Edward Smith of Rome dated 2 Nov 1813. In it Abigail Smith of Rome said that Edward Smith late of Rome is deceased and that she saw him die "and further saith not". Really tough family here and they drive me crazy. How are you related? 2. Does anyone have any information on Frank Marthage (Martoccio) who lived in Utica in the 1930's? He apparently does in 1937 in Los Angeles...was wondering if there were any obituaries or family history available. Thank you. 2. I have your family in my family tree! But not with any information that you need. I have the same dead ends: ?? Smith married Abagail ?? Obviously, they were married before 1806, when Norman was born. That marriage could have happened anywhere. We need more clues. Have you found them on any census? 3. James (1811-1876) and Lucy Cushman (1812-1872) Smith lived in West Branch. The following Lee area families are connected to this Smith family: REIGLER,BUTTON, WINDELSPECHT, MORAT, OLCOTT, GRISWELL/GRISWOLD, CUSHMAN, GILLETTE, EVANS. I have been unable to determine who the father of James Smith was. James' mother was Abagail (maiden name unknown) born between 1780 and 1790 . She married Jared Olcott after her first husband died. Abagail and Mr. Smith had the following known children: Norman Smith (1806-1865), Ephraim B. (1807-after 1860) and James.

    3. Sorry to reply so late; I just noticed the Richards reference looking back through old postings. I'm looking for John Richards who was born in Wales and died about 1840-1850, I believe at Utica, New York. When his daughter Jane Elizabeth (aka Jennie) was "quite young." His wife Elizabeth and family moved to Ticonderoga, NY where they are listed in the 1850 census. Elizabeths obituary palces the marriage in Johnsburg in 1830. I have a sketchy reference to a John Richards who worked on the Erie canal. Would you have an idea of what church the Welsh would have attended? Jennie was a member of the Baptist church in Ticonderoga until her marriage when she joined her husband in the Episcopal church. 2. I'm looking for a marriage record for Nell or Nellie Burr born, I believe, 3 January 1860 in Boonville, the daughter of Isaac BURR also of Boonville. He was a local grocer and was still alive in 1908. At that time Nell appears to have been living in Manhattan, New York with her husband, whose name I would like to discover. Unfortunately all the marriage records I could find on line for Boonville are well before or after the time she most likely married (1880-90). Any help would be greatly appreciated. I found cemetery transcription of son Arthur (parents named on stone) in 1886 (age 28) near St. Mary's. I found something interesting in a LOOMIS household in 1870 Florence: Ancil 35, Ann 30, Lizzie 9, Minnie 6, Jennie 3, Annie 2; John James 55, Elizabeth James 95. If Elizabeth is the same lady staying with William in 1950, then I wonder if Elizabeth might be mother of John and William? If so, then maiden name of Ann Loomis might be JAMES? This webpage seems to think so: http://www.jenforum.net/loomis/messages/2228.html Any Loomis/James researchers in this group? Where might we find evidence of the Mar1859 Loomis-James marriage? The entire posting seems to be extracted from another source, anyone know what it is? Frank

    3. I can't decide whether Schuyler was such a historic name in NY and people named their children or if my family may be related through an unnamed female relative. Since we are unable to identify the parents of Elijah RANSOM, I have speculated about his mother's name. father- Elijah/Elias/Eliahu ?? RANSOM mother- perhaps Martha BRADLEY or Martha SCHUYLER???? Other family name is VARNUM - probably from maternal grandmother's side (Mary DUNTON'S mother, Mary RHODES of RI) Any thoughts on this? I am in Portland, OR, which is just about as far from Oneida Co, NY as you can get. <G> I have been doing genealogy for over 35 years and both my parents have ancestors from the same place. I have researched in Salt Lake several times as well. Here is my question for you. Where do you think I should go from here? These are my brick walls. -------------------------------------------------------------- Carlow/Carlo H.
