    1. Re: [NYONEIDA] ADOPTION RECORDS
    2. Sharon Your friend should do some foot work to find out what Counties her mother lived or was Born in. Perhaps her mother's Obit would have some info or her changed Birth Certificate, Marriage Record, SS Info or Death Record, How did she find out she was Adopted? Where did the family that adopted her live? Without that information it is like looking for a needle in a hay stack. Pat R

    3. What if you have no idea what county the birth mother was from? I've been trying to help someone who was placed for adoption in upstate NY, but doesn't know the county, just that her mother's maiden name was Frank, a very common name in that area. 2. Hi This information can help you. Adoption Information Registry While adoption and birth records remain confidential and under court seal, an adoptee who was born and adopted in New York State, the birth parent of that adoptee or the biological sibling of that adoptee can register with the Adoption Information Registry to obtain certain kinds of information. The Registry helps adoptees obtain available non-identifying information about their birth parents and enables the reunion of registered adoptees with their birth parents and biological siblings. Finally, the Registry provides a place for birth parents to file medical information updates which may be shared with registered adoptees Then go to this URL as it has the Registry Formst and additiional information. http://www.health.state.ny.us/vital_records/adoption.htm Always remember there are "Back Doors" where one can obtain some additional information. You can search Guardianship Papers in the County where the Adoption was and you can also check Court Records that might exist prior to the Adoption. In addition it was not unusual for relatives to adopt babies born out of wedlock or similar situations in the past. So a family connection could very well exist. Good Luck in your Search Pat R

    1. [NYONEIDA] Veterans Day Tribute
    2. GMF
    3. On this Veterans Day 2007, I would like to pay tribute to all those from Oneida County who served their country in the Armed Forces. I especially wish to honor the memory of JOSEPH (JOE) GENOVESE, son of the late Peter and Carmella Genovese, who was a resident of Rome, NY. He graduated from RFA in June of 1943. Joe was drafted into the Army on 20 Sept 1943 and gave his life in Italy in October of 1944. He was my best friend. A mutual friend who also served in Italy has written about Joe as follows: "When in 1944 I learned he was in the 88th Division on our right, I started trying to contact him. Both Divisions were in Montecatine just before Christmas,'44 and I went looking for him. All I remember was that he was a medic in the 3rd Battalion, but don't remember which regiment. I finally got his outfit and talked to his Sergeant. He was well liked, and very brave. What happened was some people were severely wounded, and he was helping them back to the aid station, although he didn't have to. On the way they were shelled, nearly all were killed, Joe among them." GMFreeman Lest We Forget

    2. I do some research for my dad's cousin who was with the 8th US Army's 385th Bomb Group in WWII. They flew out of Great Ashfield, England and on his 24th mission he was shot down, crash landing in Sweden. I was able to find a newspaper account of the crash with all the crew listed and pictures of the plane as it rested in a farmers field. They survived thanks to pilot Duane Pangle's skill and were interned in Sweden for months. These men deserve tribute not only on Veterans Day but for each and every day as I read more and more of their service. God Bless them everyone!
