Dear Newsgroup, Hello and thanks to everyone for answering my messages about Oneida County information. In a recent search of counties across the United States, I came across an Oneida County that is in Idaho. In my last post, the list of Towns in Oneida County, N.Y., Please omit "De Lorme". There may also have been towns that were left off of the list unintentionally. If you would like more information, historical etc., Please consult the world wide web search engine, Yahoo at the URL: http://www.yahoo.com Yahoo! also has an Oneida County Web page at the URL: http://dir.yahoo.com/Regional/U_S__States/New_York/Counties_and_Regions/Onei da_County For Maps of Oneida county: Please continue to the URL: http://maps.yahoo.com/py/maps.py?Pyt=Tmap&addr=&csz=Oneida+County%2C+New+Yor k%2C+NY&Get+Map=Get+Map There are three main Indian Tribes in New York, They are: The Iriquois Tribe The Mohawk Tribe The Seneca Tribe I am also wondering about finding or making a list of businesses in Oneida County, N.Y. which were in operation during the 1820's. Is Farming part of Oneida County's heritage? I had heard that they were known for their farming. Thanks, Audrey Bowne BOWNE Family researcher Seattle,WA
I saw someone's do this so please excuse me for copying him, but I thought it was a great way to tell people about specific surname mailing lists. (Thanks for the great idea Richard!) It has been sent to the central NY lists and please accept my apologizes if you're on more than one. We also have a surname specific mailing list. It is for Wohleben/Wollaber/Woolaber/Welliver and any other way you can misspell a good German name. :D It has been around for a couple of weeks and contains 20-30 family descendants. It is available to anyone researching this surname and its' variants. Please feel free to pass this along to anyone you know who is researching this surname. If you haven't heard of it, check it out; if you have Howdy Cuz! :D To subscribe send "subscribe" word in message line to WOHLEBEN-L-request@rootsweb.com we would love to have you join. Thanks all for your patience. George H Woliver III george.woliver@snet.net Editor Wohleben/Welliver Cousins International Research Group quarterly newsletter.
Can anyone tell me the name, etc., of the Utica Catholic Church in 1830-1850? Also, would like to know where information about parishioners in that timeframe can be accessed. Thanks Jimmie1941@aol.com

Good evening: I would like to share information with other descendants of Emil NORD and Kristina NELSON NORD. This couple arrived from Sweden around 1903-1906 (?) settled for a number of years in Jamestown,NY, Kristina died Forrestport,(Oneida Co.) NY late 40's to mid 50's. Would like to hear from any cousins. Lorna June
Melissa, The answer is it should have been. I recently obtained the death certificates from the NY State Dept. of Health for twins who died in Boonville, Oneida Co. in 1898. One lived 3hrs. the other 6hrs. The physician filled out death certificates for each. I also know from searching the index of births, that the physician also filed two birth certificates. The children themselves were not named and are refered to as "infant child" and indexed under the family surname. You can search the NY State vital records indexes at the NY State Archives in Albany or at the National Archives in Manhattan. That will tell you if there are birth and death certificates for the infant you are researching. Or you can risk a couple dollars and apply directly for a death certificate from Albany Hope this helps. Roy p.s. I waited 6 months to NY State Dept. of Health to fill my request even though I supplied them with the exact certificate numbers I wanted. ---------- From: MMille5323@aol.com[SMTP:MMille5323@aol.com] Sent: Sunday, April 18, 1999 11:15 AM To: NYONEIDA-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [NYONEIDA-L] Death Certificate Question I am hoping a more experienced researcher could answer a death certificate question. Audrey's call for a more comprehensive Oneida Co database is a certainly a good one. Much of this data is - or could be - available at the Oneida Co Genweb site. It would seem better to have a coordinated effort. I know the genweb site would relish getting this type of info online. It would be preferable not to duplicate efforts. The contact person for townships is good too. I have often thought it would be an ideal project for local schools history depts to involve students in active research to be placed on county genwebs - perhaps as an extra credit or independent study project. What a great way to involve the young in true historical research and genealogy......
I am hoping a more experienced researcher could answer a death certificate question. In 1918 if a child died as an infant, would a death certificate have been issued? George GILMORE and spouse Elizabeth BLAIR had 6 children b. near Cambridge, Washington Co., NY., between 1767 and 1784. Three of those children removed to Oneida Co in late 1700's and early 1800's. Jennie GILMORE m. Daniel PATTEN, 1793, moved to Westmoreland. Will probated for Daniel PATTEN, 1837, not mentioning Jennie. When did she died? Where is she buried? Possibly 5 children: Sarah, Mary, Daniel, Elizabeth, & Thomas. Sarah GILMORE m. ??? Watson and moved to Western, NY. This is all that is known. John GILMORE moved to Oneida Co., NY. This is all that is known. I found a John GILMORE m. in Rome, NY, but no date, no spouse named, and not sure if this is the right one. Thanks for any assistance. Jean Gilmore

Hello List, Here is my BIG brick wall. I am looking for information on Sarah Randolf (1771-1798) of Oneida Co. Sarah was the first wife of Edward S, Salisbury (born 1765 Gloucester, RI, died 1832 Oneida Co). Edward and Sarah had a daughter, Aphia, born 1793. Edward then married Ada (____) Crowell, widow of a Mr. Crowell, and mother of Sarah Crowell (born 1794), and John Crowell (born 1797). Aphia Salisbury married Gaius Barrett Rich and their daughter Sarah, is my namesake. As Sarah Rich is probably named after her grandmother, Sarah Randolf, I'd like to know anything about her. I understand that a James Randolf was in Oneida Co. about this time and wonder if there is a connection. thanks for any help, Sarah

They had 2 children, Lucinda Lee (b1807) and Mary (Polly) Rogers (b1812 in Duanesburgh). I have them as members of the first Baptist Church of Whitestown in 1813. Lucinda Lee married Matthew Morgan of the Morgan banking family -- I have extensive records on them. Mary (Polly) married Charles Monroe Sr.(b. Scotland) in about 1828 in Duanesburgh, NY. Charles Monroe, Jr was born in Duanesburgh in 1830: Robert Lee Monroe was born in Utica in 1832. I have extensive records of them living in Utica between 1832 and 1850 from the Utica City Directories. I have indication from the same directories that Charles, Sr died in around 1845. Mary and sons then moved to NY City. I have other extensive records since my direct line comes from Robert Lee. My Holy Grail is Charles who was a stonemason by trade -- looking for his death record, burial location, place of birth in Scotland, etc. I do know he was naturalized in 1828 in Albany -- but the records don't give enough vital information. I have visited Utica and done on-site work on two occasions as well as consulting with the local historical society -- they told me the local public cemetery was relocated and records sketchy at best (none for him). Am getting ready to go to Scotland at the end of May and would really like to know where he was born. Have checked many available records (wills, surrogates, etc) to no avail. If anyone has advice or information, please e-mail me. Sorry for the long message. Marilyn Monroe Amodeo jimmie1941@aol.com --part1_d94f525a.2447ef0b_boundary--
