    1. [NYONEIDA-L] Gardner/Cole
    2. Mary Walters
    3. Hi! I'm researching my GARDNER ancestors. My current line of research is Albert David GARDNER b. 1853 who married Augusta COLE b. 1856 (In Canada?). They Lived and died in FLoyd. Albert's parents were David GARDNER b. 1814 and Polly HOGLE b. 1817. David's parents were Benjamin GARDNER b. 1783 and Lois KENT b. 1789. Benjamin was the first of the GARDNERS that I know of to move to Floyd. He and his wife are buried there. David and Albert also stayed in Floyd, but David the younger moved to Rochester in the early 1900's. I'm interested in anything anyone may have on the Benjamin > David > Albert > David line. Also anything on Augusta COLE, Albert's wife would be helpful. Any info would be greatly appreciated! TIA Mary

    2. Janice Taylor
    3. I am searching for the parents of my ggg-grandfather Samuel Steward who was born in Oneida County, NY in 1804. He married Emily Hawley in 1828 also in Oneida Co. I was looking in the Deeds Index for Oneida Co. and found where Oliver Stewart and his wife Acynthia on Aug 14, 1827, sold land to a Samuel Stewart, a Charles Stewart, a Ezra J. Stewart and a Enos Stewart (each individually) and also on the same day Oliver and Acynthia bought land from William Sloan. I have ordered these records. Can anyone tell me anything about Oliver and Acynthia and the others listed? Where Samuel, Charles, Ezra and Enos their children? My Samuel moved to McHenry Co., IL in 1846 and had a son named Charles in IL. Thanks for your help! Janice Taylor janicet@pdq.net http://freeweb.pdq.net/janicet

    1. [NYONEIDA-L] John GILMORE, m. in Rome, NY
    2. jean gilmore
    3. John GILMORE was listed in "Index of marriages in First Religious Society Town of Rome 1807-1899, now formally known as First Presbyterian Church, 108 West Court St., Rome NY." Records are found beginning on p. 256 in Vol. 124 of DAR Church, Town, Cemetery, which is found in NYS Library, Albany. Does anyone have knowledge of John GILMORE and his marriage partner? Was John the son of George GILMORE and Elizabeth BLAIR GILMORE of Cambridge, Washington Co., NY, b. between 1768-1782? Any information would be appreciated. Jean Gilmore

    3. Yesterday I viewed LDS film #1002590 which contains Batch #C507081 (dated 1 Oct 1976), Births or Christenings of the First Congregational Church in Westmoreland, listed as 1792-1821, but is actually 1792-1797; 1799-1800; 1802-1806; 1819-1821. A surname index precedes the actual listings. Unfortunately I was seeking Morse STERLING, supposedly born 1814 in Westmoreland. One other related STERLING was listed in 1803 in this record. I do not know if marriages are available on LDS film from this church. The Oneida Co. Historical Society, 1608 Genesee St., Utica, NY 13502-5425, advised me at the end of March that this Church was destroyed by fire 29 Feb 1960, and it (the congregation) merged with the United Church of Christ whose national headquarters are at 105 Madison Avenue, New York, NY 10016, which might have old records. Also they noted there is a Congregational Library at 14 Beacon St., Boston, MA 02108 which might be of help. It seems curious this LDS film segment is dated 1976, AFTER the church burned in 1960. 2. http://www2.telenet.net/commercial/stjohns/archives.htm <A HREF="http://www2.telenet.net/commercial/stjohns/archives.htm">Archives </A> St. John's Reformed Church Archives Update: April 25. Some of the pages have been returned and posted, still others are in the process of being typed. This looks like a very interesting project, so keep checking in. All the available pages have been mailed to the volunteers and almost daily, the typed packets are e-mailed back. Below you will find links to Book 1 and Book 2, which is where the genealogical information is located. Latest news: An old ledger with a writeup about old documents has been located. Probably this was the basis for the church history which was written in 1947 and revised in 1970. In the coming weeks, we hope to have this available on-line. Check back to this page, we may need more typing volunteers. Please do not request genealogical research from St. John's. If you wish to request research, the Montgomery County Department of History and Archives, in Fonda, NY 12068 will do research and also the Margaret Reaney Memorial Library, St. Johnsville, NY 13452 (e-mail: mrml@telenet.net.) The charge for a search from the library is $10.00 a search plus twenty-five cents for each page copied plus postage. Other reputable private researchers are available upon request by contacting the webmaster. Suggestion: Read "1970" . This file contains a book about the history of our church. Many names are listed and perhaps you will find more information about your family. Also, check the Fort Klock Historic Restoration web site. There are several lengthy documents on that site with many of the same names contained on St. John's site. To search for a particular family name, download the file. Most word processing programs will convert HTML into their format. After that step, ask your word processing program to search for the family name you are seeking. It is much easier than trying to search the entire text for a name. In some of the programs you have to ask for the program to "replace", just don't type in a replacement name and you should be able to locate all the incidences of the name. While we welcome you to make optimal use of the information provided on this web site by using it, copying it, or downloading it, as you are are able, this information is from St. John's church records and is provided to all as a Christian mission and therefore is not to be reproduced for sale or profit. 1. [NYONEIDA-L] Anyone live near Rome?
    2. I am looking for help from someone living in or near Rome. I need to get a copy of a marriage record. I will be glad to compensate for your effort. The marriage was performed in the First Religious Society of the "Town of Rome" between 1807 and 1899. The church is now known as "The First Presbyterian Church: 108 W. Court St. Rome. I am seeking the marriage record of MARY WOOD WILLIAM KNOX. This information is also in "Church, Town and Cemetery" Records Vol. 124, beginning pages 256. The volume is in the NYS Library in Albany. I do not know if it is available at the Rome Library or not. Any help appreciated. Phyllis in Fl.

    2. Can anyone tell me what newspapers were published around 1850 near Floyd or Marcey? I have lost my ggggrandfather since the 1840 census and since his children all moved to Wisconsin in 1850, am wondering if there was a death that precipitated the move since there is no mention of this family after the sons arrived in Wisconsin. Any assistance is appreciated. Colleen

    2. Roy Crego
    3. Meg, Civil records were kept for births from circa 1847-1849/50 and after 1880. For records after 1880 contact the NY State Dept of Health (form available on their website). Utica has records 1873 to present (Schweitzer, NY Genealogical Research, 1988) Of course there are church records that may go much earlier. The Oneida Co. Rootsweb site has posted the early (1847-51) records. I suspect (although they do not cite their source) that this is the database compiled by Oneida Co. and available to the public in the basement of the Oneida Co. Courthouse in Utica. I believe they also have a website. Many of the original records are with the town clerks. (and be sure and click on the "Guidelines" link, too) For Oneida County, most records are from the 1880's, but "some records are available from 1847-1850" . Perhaps for 1839 you could check the church records for the area, microfilmed by the LDS.

However I did find the Town of Deerfield had records back to 1847 (and the one I needed was 1846, would you believe!!!) So my advice would be to contact the Town Clerk where your George was born and hope for the best! Marsha Strong Gianesville, FL
