Hello! Unfortunately, you know more of your Allen than I do of mine. My ALLEN has been just that for more than 100 years now. Everywhere we look in the family genealogy he is referred to as ________ ALLEN. I believe we have finally found his name though and it is Arty or Artie ALLEN. There is an Artemas Allen in the 1800 Oneida Census and in the 1810 Census as well. I think maybe this is him. There are no Arthur Allen's in those censuses for Oneida County, at least that is what someone told me. In 1820 he is not there, as expected, and Tabitha is alone. Also, his son, Japhet Chapin ALLEN named his first son, Arty ALLEN. I believe he was born in Massachusetts (probably in the 1770's) because I have found a marriage record for them stating that Arty ALLEN married Tabitha CHAPIN in Springfield, Hampden, Massachusetts on 5 Jan 1799. Plus, that is where the Chapin's were from anyway and Tabitha was born there. They may have come to Oneida County between 1799, their marriage, and 1800. I do know that they lived in the old town of Amboy which I have found is supposed to be somewhere near Camden. There is an old cemetery left and that is about it. I also know from old family letters that Japhet Chapin Allen, (b. 25 Nov 1810 in Amboy, Oneida, New York) was about 4 years old when his father died. I think Arty may have died in the war of 1812. Japhet was indentured out at a young age and I have no idea what happened to Tabitha or Arty or where either of them are buried. Japhet Chapin Allen married Chloe STANFORD, daughter of Jonathan Stanford & Eunice MORTON of Annsville, and moved first to Illinois and then on to Iowa. She is my Stanford connection. I have tons on the Stanford's and tons on the Chapin's but almost nothing on my elusive Arty Allen. I figure that Church, land records, and maybe Military records are the only records left about him. I don't seem to find a will. I will try some of these other records next. It is interesting that you have an Allen from anothere state as well. We may need to keep each other posted. Who knows? I guess everyone started coming to Oneida, NY about this same time though. It does make it difficult. Most of my direct line ancestors have moved West and away from the Oneida area by 1850. Hello! I am new to this list and decided to join it for self-preservation. I have too many lines that blew through Oneida, NY. I'm also doing some research into early 1800 records for Oneida, NY. I'm starting with Annsville and working out. These are my surnames. I have tons on the Stanford line, and am working on connecting the Morton line into a large pedigree. These are the names I'm researching: ALLEN, CASE, CHAPIN (only a small connection to Oneida Co.), MORSE, MORTON, ROCKWOOD or ROCKWELL, STANFORD, STONE, THORNE. Anyone researching these names is someone I'd like to hear from. Thanks. Ruth Helvy

I notice that you list you address as Holland Patent (I am an SVCS graduate if that means anything to you!) and wonder if you know anything of how that hamlet got its name. I know the word "patent" is used as a designation for the parcels of land that were given out to the early NYS settlers, and I assume Holland Patent was given to Dutch settlers -- anything else interesting about it? Penny The town of Camden still exists as a Township and a village. Florence is a Township though sparsely populated. The towns are adjacent to each other. Camden is pretty much a farming/commuter community with some manufacturing. Quite a few N.E. yankees seemed to have settled here after the Rev. but most moved on to greener pastures. I took a quick look thru my Camden history book but don't see either name in the index. Good luck in your search. Good Afternoon~ I am looking for connections to Daniel HALE b.abt 1780 in Brookfield, MA, moved to VT and was in Florence, Oneida Co, by the 1820 census. His daughter Fanny Hale b. 1805(my ggg grandmother) was listed as being b. in VT, and his other daughter, Ruth was b. 1809. Fanny m. James SERGEANT in 1824, and Ruth m. James's 1st cousin, Wells Ely SERGEANT. They lived in New Berlin, Chenango Co. I have no idea how it was these two Sergeant men met and married these 2 Hale women. That is what I am trying to find out. Daniel m. Polly BARTLETT in Sept 1804 probably in Waterford, VT. They then moved to NY. I am positive this is my family as the girls were born the right times. Daniel was s/o Thomas HALE and Ruth HARDY of Brookfield, MA. Polly was d/o Eli BARTLETT and Mary HILL , and was b. Oct 30, 1778. She m David Eveleth first in 1800. Are these towns still in existence in Oneida Co? Do these names sound familiar to anyone? I am seeking information of type on Laywelland Westcott, son of George W. and Marian Palmer Westcott, b, 8 Apr 1844 in Oneida County NY. When young he moved with his family to LaSalle County, IL and later married Anna T. Lewis of that area. They raised their family in Creston, NE, died and were buried there. Sorry, dates would help. Samuel, born about 1823, married about 1849, Catherine, born 27 Oct. 1832.
Hello fellow and fellowette researchers, Samuel S. GOULD married Catherine C. WHEELER, born in Cayuga Co. They had nine children: Chester, Loren, Ida, Sarah, Bradford, Samuel, Charles, William and Georgeanna, all believed to be born in Oneida Co., NY. Just one of those children, Charles, fathered 15 children. 8 by his first wife, Mary Ann PATERSON of Oneida Co.: Nellie, Edward, Ethel, Harlow, George, Hattie, Harry, Samuel. And 7 by his second wife, Jennie Corivin Cooper of Cayuga Co.: Margaret May, Ora, Margaret Irene, Florence, Myrea, Leslie and Helen. Most of Charles's children born in Wayne Co. Now, one would think, with all those GOULDS, isn't there anyone who knows anything about this family? PLEASE! Milli Gould
Thanks to a listmember I know that Thomas E. LAWRENCE and his wife Mary Ann are buried at the West Branch Cemetery in Lee. Thomas was born about 1776, and died July 27, 1825 in Lee. Thomas is the father of Gilbert W. Lawrence (who married Mary T. WILSON), and had at least one other child, Sarah W. Lawrence. Does anyone know Thomas Lawrence's lineage, or who Mary Ann was?
I'm researching TOM DUNN lineage. Any info out there? Would appreciate hearing from someone with DUNN lineage. Phyl in Fl.
