Hi Jack, I got your reply and I don't think I've heard of the book History of Remsen. My HUNTS start with ASAHEL HUNT, who was the son of LT. SIMEON HUNT OF COVENTRY. He was born in 1757 in Northhampton,Ma He moved to Bridgewater around 1794 and married DIANTHA DIMMOCK in 1796. Their son HIRAM, my great-greatgrandfather, was born in 1797 and married ANN KIRKLAND in 1820. Ann's father was STEPHEN KIRKLAND her mother was ABIGAIL PRATT. They were from Saybrook, CT. ASA P. and NATHANIEL were Ann's brothers. ASAHEL and DIANTHA are buried in Bridgewater. ASAHEL died in 1839 and HIRAM had moved to Wisconsin by 1869. ANN'S sister MARTHA married WILLIAM LEWIS and then moved to New Haven Ct. I have no other information on William Lewis. My ROCKWOOD'S have been very hard to trace. SHERMAN MORGAN LEWIS ROCKWOOD was my great-greatgrandfather. SHERMAN was born in Herkimer Co. NY in 1807. He married CATHERINE ROOT. Her father was WINTHROP ROOT of Chatham NY. Her mother was SUSAN CADY. SILAS ROCKWOOD was SHERMAN'S father. His mother was a LURA DEWITTE. They appear in the 1800 Herkimer U.S. census. When SHERMAN died his father was listed as Silas Rockwood of Trenton Falls NY. That is all I know. I would appreciate any help you can give. Thank you Lynn Crowder
Hi Just wanted to let you know I have the Oneida Co. mailing list surname page up at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Ranch/1006/oneida.html It's nothing fancy but I think it will work ok. If the list ever gets to large I'll break it down into smaller pages. Have also updated the tags that are attached to each message to reflect the surname page. Judy listowner
I am researching the HUNT,KIRKLAND, PRATT and LEWIS Families of Bridgewater, Oneida Co. I also am researching the ROCKWOOD AND DEWITTE Families of Trenton Falls NY. Thank you, Lynn Crowder
I just sent the below message to the NYMadison list--maybe it will help here too. Just a suggestion. Kathy > I find the roll calls very helpful--and interesting. Have contacted > many people through them and obtained family info-- from both family and > regional mailing lists such as the NYMadison list. > I would love to see them done quarterly. Could there be a quarterly > reminder from the list owner? PERHAPS a separate mailing list for these > quarterly Roll Call postings would be effective. This way the people who > do not want the roll calls would get no extra mail. > Only those who subscribe would get extra mail. > Is this possible? > Kathy Unsel Gillis > wbgillis@snet.net >
Hi All The roll call seem to be about over. As listowner I had no problem with it. And option to having a roll call is I could set up a page on my web site for the surname everyone is research and your email address. And put something in the tags that come in each messages to the nyonedia list. If this is what you would like just send a message to me with you surnames and email address and if you have a time frame for your surnames. This may take a couple of days to get on line. Lets use this address instead of my rocketmail address as I have unlimit email access so wouldn't have problems with an over flowing mail box. Another reminder if you are going on vacation you may want to briefly unsubscribe. Every message that bounces come back to me and with about 12 mailing list that I run talk about allot of mail besides the 15 or so other mailing list I'm on. As to an earlier posting about replies to the list I received 8 responses. 4 yes 3 no and 1 said lets try it for a week or so. So haven't decided what I will do here yet. Back to roll calls I checked my subscribtion list and we've added a few subscribers and haven't lost any. We have about 248 on the list. Have a great day Judy Listowner "George H. I am not opposed to "roll call" but I believe it would be beneficial of surnames would be included in the reference line. Then you can observe them quickly and delete them if not interested. I'm afraid when I have to open every message to see what the surnames are, I just delete without checking. Karen
Hello everyone, my surnames is: NOBLE ( around Rome NY) ALICE WINIFRED b. 1872, grew up in Rome, her parents were JAMES NOBLE and JANE. -- Nancy H. Stock
oooooops. wrong list. that roll call listing should have gone to oswego. gotta get more sleep graham
only one on roll call: LOWER in Constantia/Hastings 1840s Graham
I must agree. The roll call is more than I need. I have checked the surname boards and if you want people to find you, post your surnames there. I subscribe to 4 counties (because research is in area that was in 3 counties in a 10 year span). I get 100 emails a day for the roll call. Do you know what it's like to see that many and for items that folks can find if they do some research. (Isn't that what genealogy is all about!) I agree that the roll call has a brief purpose but there must be another way to achieve the same results (one compiled list somewhere; idea, how about a place for surnames only) . If it continues much longer, I'm gonna unsubscribe and then what purpose will that serve. If you've noticed the miss-addressed emails many have started leaving already. List owners, how do these effect list size. Do they drive away more people than they help? Looking for Daniel Clark(e) and his family in Utica around 1840. He had a son, William Parker Clark(e) whose civil war enlistment records say that he was born in Utica about 1840-1841. He also had a sister Mary P. Clark(e) who married Warner. William enlisted in the 96th Illinois Infantry in Galena, IL in 1862. Daniel and Mary can be found in Galena, Illinois in November 1864. I would appreciate any help or suggestions. Thanks.

Researching: PEEK, 1795-1999 / EDICK, 1800s / WEAVER, 1773-1800s / SHERMAN, 1700s-1800s / JOHNSON, 1700s-1800s / HILLIDGE-HILLAGE, 1865-1999 / DAVIS, 1865-1999 / in Deerfield, Marcy, Utica, Oriskany, Westmoreland, Trenton areas. P.S. I think the roll call is a great idea. It wakes up the list and prompts people to participate when they may not have a specific query or response to post but hope to make connections with others who are searching for Oneida County families. The response to the roll call indicates many others also favor doing this once in a while... thanx -- George W. Peek gpeek@ibm.net
Dear Bob, Your e-mail via choicemotel.com bombed out - so here goes When I was a wee lad growing up in Vernon in the 50s, our milk was delivered by Mr Simmons of the Simmons Dairy Farm of Vernon Center. It's a bit distant from Annsville area & perhaps no connection. Still, he was a wonderful man. The farm was about 4 mi away and ran along the Sconondoa Creek. My buddies & I often rode our bikes to Simmons to swim in the creek. There was a long deep stretch which is probably all but a trickle now...pretty sure his name was Robert..... Dan
