Looking for information on the following people: William JONES, according to his obituary was a mason, built many of Utica's buildings, supervised, etc. His first wife was Laura PERRY (PARRY), who died in 1843. They had two children, one who died, and Elizabeth JONES. He then married a Mrs. William ROBERTS 1845. I'm looking for any information about his second wife. I do not have a first name. Again according to the obituary, there were four other children surviving him, besides Elizabeth. I'm guessing they were from this second marriage. The second question I have is about the HOWARTH'S. James HOWARTH opened a grocery store around 1850 on Corn Hill, which from newspaper articles, Corn Hill was a busy place. He died in 1853, (do not have exact date). He was married twice, his first wife was Mary GRUNDY, his second wife was her sister Sarah. Mary and James had John, who married Elizabeth JONES. The SHOTTHAFER'S also lived in Utica and I would like any information on them. Grace Jeanette HOWARTH (daughter of John and Elizabeth) married Edward SHOTTHAFER June 6, 1900. I'm looking for more information on any of the SHOTTHAFER'S, but in particular George SHOTTHFER and Caroline SUHR and their other children: George, Mary, John, Margaret and Leo. They had a daughter Carrie who died in an accident and another son Edward who was my grandfather. Sorry this is so long, any help would be greatly appreciated even if it is only historical. Willing to share any info I have as well. Thanks, Cheryl

Hello, I would like to hear from anyone who had ancestors in the Utica, NY area with any of these surnames. I have information on most of them back to the 1830's, with some birth dates reaching back to 1807 but possibly from other areas. Towns mentioned in my research, other than Utica, are Whitestown & New York Mills. Little Falls, NY in Herkimer County is also mentioned in relation to the Hands. Also, does anyone know if there is, or was, a town called Litchfield in NY? Jane A.

Hi All This message is for all three list that a surname page was started for. As many of you know yahoo and geocities yesterday combined their databases. As a result when you login in to geocities for the first time you have to go throught a little signup procedure before you can work with your site files. For some reason I can't get pass this spot. I keep getting an error has happened and please try back later. I have but still keep getting the same results. I don't if anyone else with a site at geocities is having this problem or not. Anyway those you have sent in surname for the oneida new york and schuylkill co pa page I'll add them as soon as I can get to my file manager site. The buck co list to ready to get on line. Again as soon as I can get to the file manager site. I've sented a message to geocities about the problem but don't know how long it will take. You can still sent in any surname for any of the list. I'll get them on the site as soon as I can. Thanks Judy homepage http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Ranch/1006 _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? I'm looking for a newspaper article published in "the early part of this century" in the Utica (NY) Globe. It was a feature story about the Western adventures of Harvey Sayles GOODENOW, complete with stories of cattle drives, silver prospecting, Indians, buffalo hunts and Mormons. I visited the Utica Public Library last fall but only had time to look through a few issues on microfilm. I've seen excerpts of the article but would really like the full version as it includes a picture of Harvey Sayles GOODENOW. Any suggestions? TIA Gail Sterling Heights, MI gmschulte@prodigy.net
Hi, I have done some research in Bridgewater on my Howland lines. The town clerk was extremely helpful. She pointed out that the only birth and death records that she has are from 1880-present. She does have some town tax records from 1820-1880, but they are spotty at best. You might want to contact the Bridgewater Historical Society. I don't have their address right now but they might be able to assist you. Hi everyone, I am looking for information on George W. and Marian Palmer WESTCOTT, and/or their parents and children. It seems they were in Oneida County NY in 1844 as I have a family record that states their eldest son,Laywelland, was born 9 Apr 1844 in Oneida County. Any information would be greatly appreciated, including how I might confirm and birth record of Laywelland, my 2nd great grandfather. The siblings I have listed as George W. and Marian's children are: Laywelland, Frances, Elizabeth, Eva (b. 1854 in NY), Ada, George E. (b. 1858 in NY) and Edward. Sue Peterson
Hi, I was wondering if someone could tell me where to write for a death certificate or registration of some kind. I need a proof of death for Asahel Hunt. He died in Bridgewater, Oneida Co, on March 30, 1839. I would appreciate hearing from anyone with either that information or if they might have information for my Hunt and also Kirkland family. Thank you, Lynn Crowder
Joan, I do not know of any old pictures, there might be some in the Oriskany Falls Library. As for employee records, I do know that Hathaway Shirts are still being made. The company left Oriskany Falls in the early 1940's, and moved their manufacturing to somewhere in the Carolinas. If you let me know the names of who you are looking for , I can look in my great-grandmother's scrapbooks and see if I can find anything from the Oriskany Falls newspaper that refers to them. Her scrapbooks cover Oriskany Falls from 1890-1919. Hope this helps. Hi-- Does anyone have any information on the above-named community of the 1850's/60's time period, located in the Town of Whitesboro? We have some kin who were born there during those years, and are wondering if it was a village, and just where it was located. Would appreciate any help on those questions! Thanks... Dianne
