    2. Seeking information about Catholic Priest John J. Toomey who was pastor at St. Agnes church in the middle to late 1880's. 1. [NYONEIDA-L] Nathan JONES, b. 1792 Rensselaer County NY, m. Esther BABCOCK
    2. Carol Martin
    3. Hello, Does anyone know the following? I am looking for any clues regarding the family of: Nathan JONES, b. 1792 Rensselaer County NY, m. Esther BABCOCK, d. 3 Mar 1863 Oneida County NY. Nathan and Esther had at least one child, Betsey Emeline JONES (who married and divorced Joseph WELLS of Augusta, Oneida County NY). Esther's BABCOCK line is of the BABCOCKs of Westerly RI, and I strongly suspect that Nathan's is, too, as there was a Nathan JONES in Westerly RI the right age to be Nathan's father (or grandfather?). I just cannot make the connection. Can anyone help? Thank you, Carol Martin carolmorgain@earthlink.net

    3. Hello Searchers! I have recently been given a whole bushel full of information about a BEST family who lived in Herkimer (specifically Ilion and Frankfort) and Oneida (specifically Westmoreland and Deerfield) Countied. 1. [NYONEIDA-L] Tubbs family in Verona, late 1820's
    2. Winifred Grant
    3. I am looking for information to verify my great- great-grandfather's birth. According to all his records (marriage, death, military, etc.), Charles Henry Tubbs was born in Verona, Oneida Co., NY on 19 November, 1829. He was the oldest son and second child of Charles Tubbs (of Norwalk, CT and West Springfield, MA) and Emily Morgan Tubbs (of West Springfield, MA). His older sister was born in 1826 in W. Springfield, and he may have had two other siblings born in the Verona area (Emily in 1832 and Luman in 1833), before the family moved on to Michigan (where the next child, Avanda, was born in 1835--according to the census). Charles Tubbs Sr. was a "building mover" according to the 1850 census and may have been in the same occupation during this time. They may have been with one of Emily (Sr.)'s brothers and their families as one removed from W. Springfield to Michigan in the early 1830's (this is only speculation though). Does anyone have ideas on where I could look to find the Tubbs family in Verona during this time? I have no idea where to begin to look. Thank you. Lara Grant Ripon, WI

    3. Hi Group~ I am looking for Daniel HALE and his wife, Polly BARTLETT who lived in Florence, and then, were listed in the 1830 & 1840 NY census's living in CAMDEN, Oneida Co. If there is anyone on this list who can try and find any sort of reference to this Daniel Hale, I will be willing to pay for some research on this couple. I am trying to find out if the Fanny Hale b. 1804, Ruth Hale b. 1809 and Daniel Hale Jr b. 1814 that were listed in the LDS IGI (and listed as children of Daniel Hale and Polly Bartlett)were my ancestor's and this was their line. The above Daniel descended from Thomas HALE and Ruth HARDY from Brookfield, MA. Thomas was a LT in the Revolutionary War and is buried in MA. He had a Will mentioning Daniel, in the Descendant's of Thomas Hale of Newbury, MA. The line only goes to Daniel and Polly(Bartlett) HALE and not their Children, however it does say they moved to Oneida co , NY. My Fanny Hale(my ggg) m. James SERGEANT in 1824, and her sister Ruth m. Wells ELY SERGEANT, There is no, further info at this time on Daniel Hale Jr that was also mentioned, but I do find a Daniel Hale b. later in the are m. to a EMILY CHIDSAY(sp?). I know from personal Sergeant History that these girls father's name was Daniel Hale, the mother was not listed. I am not positive, but I believe they were either Unitarian or Baptists(possibly even Seventh Day), although I have personally never seen any evidence to prove it, (but I know other branches of my Sergeant's were Seventh Day Baptists). I have one record that says Ruth was born in VT and another Fanny was b. in MA, so if Daniel did spend time in VT, I don't think it was long. Daniel also had a brother, Thomas Hale, who lived in Waterford, VT and shows up in some census's there. I did find a Daniel Hale in VT in 1790, but it was in Caledonia Co. Can I get this book on Pioneers of Camden Co through the LDS FHC? Judith- I want to reassure you that some mental illnesses are passed down through generation gentically while others are more of a learned behavior(that is learned from parents) and others we simply do not know. 3. I have really searched and searched for information on the Institute in Binghamton where my husbands great grandfather stil 33 years (Mental Def) + and he even died there. Name: Patrick W. Mulligan from Ireland and resided first in Sherburne, New York with his family. The reason I am searching is because one of his son's Fred Mulligan left one day and never to be seen again after 1905 in NYC. Also, one of the girl's wanted to become a nun. In pictures that I have she look very depressed. We wonder if this is being passed down through the family. Thank you. Judith M. 2. Linda Epstein
    3. Hi there. I'm hoping that some of you who are still in the Utica area may be able to help me with some of the branches in my family. The GROSSMAN family came to Utica from Lithuania. Lena, Shmeryl, Charles, Sam, Louis, and Julius. Lena married my great-grandfather, Max BENJAMIN and then later Julius BRODY, an orthodox rabbi. I know that Julius' son Eddie ran a furniture store in Utica, and Grossman Furniture, as well as Utica Luggage & Leather was owned by the Grossman family. I also know that a lot of the family lived on Whitesboro St. HOFFMAN, RIZIKA and BENAJMIN are also prominent family names. These Grossmans were in Utica in the early 1900s. Some also continue to live there. I am looking for these descendants: DESANTIS (descendants of Florence Grossman and Herman Desantis), VAN CUREN (descendants of Ethel Grossman and James Van Curen) and HURWITZ (descendants of Joseph Grossman and Anna Hurwitz). If any of these names sound familiar to you - I'd love to hear from you. I'm collecting stories, too. Thanks in advance! -- Linda D. 3. Thanks for the recent exchange of information about the Marcy State Hospital and the New York State Insane Asylum (Mohawk Valley...) at Utica. My ancestor, Mary Louise Keech, worked at the latter from about 1862 to 1865 before moving to St. Peter, Minnesota, to assist in setting up the Minnesota Hospital for the Insane. Does anyone know if there would be records of staff from that far back at the Utica institution? Thank you, Sandy Godsey

    3. Need information on Henry Pexton's death. His wife, Mary Louise Keech Pexton was a widow by 1865, when she moved from Utica to St. Peter, Minnesota. Any help would be greatly appreciated as to when he died, and the cause of death. He was alive and living in Oneida County when the 1860 Federal Census was taken, so it would have been sometime between then and 1865. Thank you, Sandy Godsey
