I have sketchy information that Benoni CAMPBELL b. 1796 in Iberville, P.Q., may have married in upstate NY Mary LEONARD b. 12 Sep 1802. In January of 1998 Nancy Burgon was looking for information about this marriage. Her e-mail address from that time is no longer working. Does anyone have a lead on Benoni, Mary or Nancy? Thanks. I'm looking for Guiteau family names (late 1700's to late 1800's) in Oneida county. The ones that I am aware of were in Trenton Township just north of Utica. Anybody have any knowledge of these. I am particuarly interested in a Lydia Guiteau who dealt land in 1808 in that area but I can't find her birth or marriage or anything else...Greg

I am looking for the ancestors of George W. Sayles who was born in Oneida County NY on 2 Oct 1807. He married Sarah Mace in 1830 in NY. George was the son of George Sayles who was born 09 Sept 1758 and Elizabeth (?). Does anyone have information on these families? Thanks for your help. Perry Adams
Am still trying to track down information on Riley Button, believed to have married Patience Weter. Riley is listed in the 1830 census in Floyd and in the 1840 census in Marcey. I know that his three sons, Alexander, Mayhew and Ezra moved to Walworth County, WI in 1850 as did a daughter who married someone with a surname of NUTT. I am trying to ascertain what events may have occurred in the 1840's that would enable the children to move west and never mention their parents in any documents such as diaries, letters, etc. Was there a disaster of some sort that may have killed the parents? Where would one look for information of this sort? Would death records be located someplace for this time period and if so, where would I look? Any assistance is appreciated. Colleen

Hello, According to Charles Ira Rose's Death Certificate, he was born in Oswego, New York on May 7, 1850. His parents were Orlando Rose and Mary Burges. Both were born in Oswego, NY. I have not been able to find the family in Oswego or anywhere. Charles Ira Rose showed up in Sodus, Wayne Co., married with two children in 1880. I am looking for Orlando and his wife, Mary Burges, who were born probably around 1820-1830 in Oswego. He was a fisherman, so I am looking along the waterways as well as the counties surrounding Oswego. If anyone might know of the family, please let me know. Thank you, Sincerely, Nancy Rose
Karen I presume you have searched the US Census for this family so: You might want to see if you can locate a city directory for Camden during the period of time your family were there. Business places are usually listed, and of course, the family home address will be there. Although Camden may have been too small at the time to support a city directory you can ask a library in the town if there are such directories available and if they will search them for you. A history of the City of Camden may also be available - you might inquire if there is an active city historian or an historical soceity. My Genealogist's Address Book tells me that a few years ago there were two Historians. For the Town of Camden there was: Gertrude Dillon, Rt 3, Box 170, Camden, NY 13316 and for the Village of Camden there was: Mrs. Elbert Peck, 13 Watkins Avenue, Camden NY 13316. As I say this book is not current but there is also an Oneida County Historical Society 1608 Genesee St, Utica, NY 13502-5425 Phone (315) 735-3642 Agnes E. Karen, You should write for a birth record to the NY State Dept of Health in Albany. The forms are on their internet site. You can access it throught the NY Genealogical and Biographical Society page at www.nygbs.org. It may take the state 6 months to answer, but they do have certificates beginning around 1880. As for Catholic churches, I'm not a local resident, but I think you might just try looking them up in the phone listings for Camden. I doubt there are many parishes in Camden. To get more background on them, try The Official Catholic Directory--a annual reference book that is available in many larger libraries. It should tell you the names and history of current parishes. Hello I am new to the list and wondered if anyone would be able to help me find out any more information on the above. He was born in Dundonald, Ayrshire, Scotland in November 1824, son of William Dean and Mary Ralston. His family's gravestone in Monkton, Ayrshire shows he died in Clinton County Oneida in 1867. I have tried to find him on passenger lists but without success. Would anyone be willing to check for me if he was on the census for 1860 or suggest anywhere else that I could search? Thanks Jean

Hello, I have a one surname search going on in Utica, New York. I'm looking for the deaths for Hugh and Elizabeth Murray. They were married in 1876 in Utica. According to the Utica City Directories, Elizabeth was listed as a widow in 1909. She disappeared from the City Directory in 1914. I need to find the exact date of death so that I can get paper copies. If anyone is doing their research in Utica would you please take a few minutes to see if you can find them for me. I would really appreciate it. Elizabeth Schultz Murray, 1913-1914 Hugh Murray, 1908-1909 Thanks, Karen --in sunny, warm Montana
Hello: Are there marriage records for 1779-80 in Utica, Oneida Co., NY, please? Supposedly, my 5th great grandparents, Samuel Martin and Silence Greene, were married in that town in that year. Finding a record would be a major break-through in my research. These two people are the tallest brick walls yet encountered. In addition, their dau. Annis , supposedly was born in Utica. New York State records are difficult to locate but one never knows. Thanks for any assistance. MFinn90885@aol.com
