    1. [NYONEIDA-L] Found LOUGHLIN obit (HOMER, BARTLETT, LATUS also mentioned)
    2. C M Strong
    3. Hello listers! Do I remember correctly that someone had listed the name LOUGHLIN in our most recent mini roll-call?? Today, as I was cleaning out some "stuff", I came across an obit from the Utica O-D (not dated, but I would think no more than 15-20 years old) for a 5-year-old boy, William F. Loughlin, son of Fred and Terry HOMER Loughlin. I'm sure my gramma sent it to me, because this child was the great-grandson of one of her very good friends, Pearl LATUS. If anyone would like this obit, please let me know [yours for a SASE and some nice words! :-)] Marsha Strong Gainesville, FL

    1. [NYONEIDA-L] Locations
    2. Hi everyone My husbend and I took a trip to Utica and Romethis last week and thought there might be some interest in some new locations. The Surrogate's Court is in the Oneida Co. Office Bldg.at 800 Park Av. on the 8th Floor. The telephone no. is 315-797-9230. The County Clerk's Office is in the same building on the second floor. The more recent land deeds are on this floor but the older ones [before 1912 I believe] are in the basement on level B1. One interesting thing we found out was that our name was spelled Mulkerin and Mulkern in some oud deeds. Does anyone have any idea where lot 47 Fonda's Patent was in the late nineties? It was in the city of Rome. Cherry McCurn

    3. Unless it involves one specific person, as an obituary, I'll respond to most of the look-ups to list, so that the material will be in Rootsweb's archivers for other searchers. Kathy, I found five WHEELERSs in Rome in 1820 census, but Isaac didn't appear until 1830 and 1840, and was gone again by 1850. Here is the listing for Isaac Wheeler in Camden, Oneida Co., NY, in the NY State Federal Census. In 1830: p. 354 1 free white male age 15 to under 20; 1 free white male 50 to under 60; 1 free white female 50 to under 60. There was also a listing for Daniel Wheeler on the same page, next line, which read 1 free white male under age 5; 1 free white male 30 to under 40; 1 free white female under age 5; 1 free white female 5 to under 10; 1 free white female 20 to under 30. ~~~~~~~ In 1840: Daniel is not listed, but Isaac's household, p. 194, has 1 free white male age 20- under 30; 1 free white male 60 to under 70; 1 free white female 60 to under 70. In 1850 in Camden, there are two listings, Brayton and Charles. Please let me know if you would like this information. Nan Proud Sponsor of Rootsweb On Thu, 19 Aug 1999 20:19:00 -0700 "John E. 2. Naomi Wall
    3. Hello! I am new to this list and would like to know if there is anyone that can help me place a photographer in Oneida county. I have a very old photo that I believe is my grandfather, William Floyd. He was born Aug. 27, 1858 in Westernville, Oneida Cty, NY. This photo is unfortunately not written on but the photographer has signed it on the front. The name is in fancy script but it appears to be a.curacleau or a.cruacpeau or maybe a.c. macpeau or a.c. macleau. Anyway that is fairly close! Are there perhaps business directories that someone can check and tell me if a photographer by a name similar to one of those would have been in Oneida cty during the 1850's? Or just what years the photographer may have been working in the Westernville/Rome area would be helpful. Thank you in advance and I hope there is someone out there that can help me out! 3. Shirley, Many of the federal military records relating to WWI were lost in fire in 1973. However, before they were lost, NY State made abstracts which are now available from the NY State Archives in Albany (Record Series B0808). The Archives will do searches for a small fee. The application form is on their website. Unlike the NY Dept of Health, the turnaround time is quite good. 3. Hello, I'm new to the list, and joined to see if I could be of help to anyone here . . . on a first come, ease of grabbing the material basis. For instance, in my phone book, which covers the county, there are ten entries for LACHUT and three for PIKUL. If you would like this info, Mary, please e me and I will send it privately. The years of indexed censuses are no problem for me. I don't mind doing a line by line search in smaller towns after that, as long as you are a bit patient with me. I have a "different-ability" (as opposed to diability) which makes it impossible for me to get out every day, but if I can help you, please let me know. I can also search Herkimer County. Take care. 2. Beth Rutherford
    3. Hi, all, new subscriber with a too-common name to search. However, I'll not give up. Am searching for a link to my gggrandfather, Charles CLINE. According to census info I have compiled, Charles was born in 1855 in NY, married to a Sarah (believe her maiden name was HOWSON (perhaps HOVSON or HOFFMAN). Charles indicated his father was born in NY as well (except for one census entry that states PA). This is the only info I have as to where the Clines may have been. A marriage entry which I believe may be my Clines, from St. Johns Dutch Reformed Church in St. Johnsville, Montgomery County, NY, indicates a Charles Cline & Sarah Hoffman were married in February, 1878. Am in the process of requesting that info to see if any light can be shed as to whether this may be my gggrandparents. The next information I have is an 1880 census entry for Charles CLINE & Sarah, with daughter Lillie (2), in Sac County, Iowa. Next I find them in the 1885 census for Knox County, Nebraska, with two more daughters, Mary & Viola (which is my g-aunt's name) & a son Frederick (my g-uncle's name). My grandfather was born in Knox County in 1886. After that, I have lost them. So, my request to you all is if anyone on this list knows if any CLINES/HOVSON, etc. were in this county. Am assuming that the Clines were of German ancestry. According to census entries, as well as a family story (tongue-in-cheek), Sarah was born in England in 1855. Would appreciate any help you can lend. Thanks in advance. Beth Rutherford Turner, OR
