    1. [NYONEIDA-L] Pratt's Settlement
    2. Hi all-- Does anyone know where this place was in the Utica/Whitestown area? We have several relatives born in the 1850's/60's where this place was named as a birthplace, but we have no clue as to its location, except that it was in the Utica area. Any info that could help place Pratt's Settlement would be welcome! Thanks! Dianne

    2. Susan Toomey, I can't resist the temptation to ask about your TOOMEY background. Could your line be connected to my great grandmother, Margaret TOOMEY HAYES. She was born in about 1833 Feenagh/Kilmeedy, Co. Limerick. My great grandparents lived in Oneida Co./Chenango Co. 1859-1878. I do not know of any of her line moving to US. Sincerely, Chuck

    1. [NYONEIDA-L] Father John J. Toomey
    2. Looking for information on Fr. John J. Toomey who was pastor at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Utica from the late 1880's until his death (whenever that was!) According to an undated obituary, Fr. John was handsome, eloquent, and popular. He was given many expensive gifts by his parishoners (I have several of them). The obituary says he was "much loved and 10,000 people attended his funeral(!)". Fr. John was born in 1857 to Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Toomey in Cohoes NY. I am also interested in where (and when) he was buried. I have had no luck getting information from the Catholic Diocese in Albany, and have had no response to my inquiry sent to St. Agnes. Can anyone provide any leads? Never thought finding a Catholic Priest would be so difficult! Many thanks - Susan Toomy

She married (1st) William PENDERY of Cincinnati, OH (abt. 1907/8?), and (2nd) Lee Whitworth (sometime between 1920 and 1944). I do not know her parents' names, but she had a sister named Lillian who married Patrick MCSWEENEY. 1. [NYONEIDA-L] Family research
    2. Hi all-- We are trying to find out about a Griffith Jones, married to Mary Roberts, 4 daughters Mary, Jane, Katherine, Annie, who are buried in a Whitesboro cemetery. We have a picture of the monument, and the writing is very difficult to read, as the picture goes back at least 60 years. We have visited Grandview Cemetery a number of times, and haven't been able to locate the monument. If anyone has any idea which cemetery this family is in, we'd be very grateful for the help. Griffith and Mary are gggrandparents to my husband, and we would love to find out more about the family! The dates we are able to read are in the mid-1800's to about 1916. The monument is large, with writing on both sides. Two of the daughters were married, and their husbands names are listed, from what we are able to make out. One daughter, Jane, was married to Isaac Terrell, and she died in 1863. She is ggrandmother to my husband. Any help would be most welcome! Dianne

    3. Greetings! The upcoming issue of Access Magazine has an article about doing one's genealogy online, and I happened to be interviewed and photographed for it. I will admit that I did mention to the reporter about NYOneida, but he wanted the general ones, so Rootsweb is mentioned instead. Here are some of the newspapers that subscribe to Access Magazine. Access Magazine is similar, in looks, to Parade Magazine and the USA Today Sunday supplement. The article comes out this Sunday, October 10 (some papers may carry it this Friday) - Bergen Record Journal Newspapers New York Post North Jersey Herald & News Beaver County Times Lancaster Intelligencer Pittsburgh Tribune-Reiview Washington Times Naples Daily News Orlando Sentinel Stuart News Tampa Tribune Vero Beach Press Chicago Daily Herald Evansville Courier & Press Ft Worth Star-Telegram Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Minneapolis Star-Tribune Arizona Republic Denver Post Bremerton Sun Long Beach Press Los Angeles Daily news Sacramento Bee Torrance Daily Breeze Oakland Tribune You could also try their web site: www.accessmagazine.com. They might post the article there. I'm very excited for when it comes out! Searching: GROSSMAN/RIZIKA/DESANTIS/VANCUREN/BENJAMIN in Utica/New Hartford
