    2. Does anyone who has access to a NY Census after 1827 (dob) and before 1850? I am searching for a Page family and believe that Howard Page, who may have used the name Marion Paige or M. Howard Paige was born in Oneida. Are there any other Page families searching for roots in India? Thanks in advance, Pat MacEachern

    1. [NYONEIDA-L] Walter MILLER/Polly SALISBURY/Thomas HARVEY
    2. Ida B. Wiese
    3. Hello all; I have a Walter MILLER b NY 1802, d 14 Jan 1865 Stephenson Co, IL, m NY 1823 Polly SALISBURY, b 1807 Cattaraugus Co, NY, d 01 Nov, 1879, Stephenson Co, IL, per her obit. There is a relationship to Thomas HARVEY of Cattaraugus Co, who was from Oneida Co. David MILLER m at Randolph, Catt Co, a dau of Thomas Harvey 1823. I found these names at Randolph, Catt Co at the same time period, living in close proximity to each other about 1830. Michael SALISBURY lived on same lot as Walter MILLER-- David SALISBURY lived on same lot as Richard SALISBURY. Richard's wife was Prudence UNKNOWN. I have reason to believe they may all have come from Oneida Co. Does any one have any further information on any of these names? I am particularly interested in the relationship of the SALISBURYs to each other and was the Polly SALISBURY who was b "Western" Oneida Co, the same one who married Walter MILLER 1823. Who were parents of Walter MILLER? I have the names of the children of Walter MILLER/Polly SALISBURY if any one is interested. Thanks for any clues on this family. Ida RODRICK WIESE Minnesota

    1. [NYONEIDA-L] LINDSAY & HARRISON
    2. Connie Barber
    3. Family legend says that Eliza Lindsay was born in Armagh, Ireland and moved to Oneida Co., NY with her family where her father ran a barge line on the Erie Canal in the 1830s. She married John Harrison, also born in Ireland. She died in 1857, weeks after the birth of her youngest child. There is a picture in the family of a Robert Lindsay who may have been her father and the 1850 census shows a Mary "Linzy" living with John and Eliza who may have been Eliza's mother. Any information on these people would be appreciated. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

    3. If anyone has the information about South Street School I would also like it. My grandfather's aunt, Carrie Shotthafer, was a teacher there from approximately 1887 to 1895 when she died. If there is a source for other historical buildings, could that be passed along? My Gr. Gr. Gr. Grandfather, William Jones, built many buildings in the Utica area in the 1800's. So I don't have to type all this in, below is a section from his obituary of buildings he helped to build. If anyone know of these, please let me know. (Obituary) Following his occupation as mason and contractor, he had constructed 120 of this city's stone and brick buildings and many frame structures. He first secured work on the Utica State Hospital, then called the Lunatic Asylum, which was being built, and he worked there two years. Then he began business for himself, and he had been in partnership at different times with Joseph Hirt, William L. Jones, Owen Jones and Thomas Birt. Mr. Jones built the Tibbets and Bradish blocks, on Genesee street; the Barnes block, on John street, near Bleecker; the Ladies' Seminary; the Utica Orphan Asylum and the addition to it; the Utica Weigh Lock; the City Hall; Steuben and Hamilton street schools, which were the first two public schools in the city; Court street school and the addition to the State Asylum. He built two additions to the Glove Woolen Mill and the wool warehouse, and after the Glove Woolen Mills were destroyed by fire rebuilt that factory. He also built the Church of the Reconciliation, Grace Church, Grace Church Chapel, Calvary Chruch, St. Luke's the First Methodist on Court street, Bethesda Church on Washington street, and the addition to the First Presbyterian Church, which comprises the church parlors and the rooms over them. At Forest Hill Cemetery he built the Childs's Chapel and the Cozzens and Stockings vaults, and also the chapel in St. Agnes's Cemetery.. He erected the Walcott and Campbell residences in New York Mills, ant one time considered the finest in this section, the bridge over the Sauquoit at Yorkville, large chimneys at Clayville and Ilion, the Butterfield flats on Layfayette street and superintended The construction of the Oriskany monument. The last work in the building line that he did was as inspector on the laying of the sewer at the Masonic Home. Mr Jones quarry in New Hartford furnished the foundation stone for many of the buildings he erected, and he had five or six men constantly at work there. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Dschottsr@aol.com> To: <NYONEIDA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, October 21, 1999 8:02 AM Subject: [NYONEIDA-L] Pictures?? > Does anyone out there have picture or pictures of the old South Street School > in Utica. 1. [NYONEIDA-L] ONEIDA CO. - CHURCHILL-SMITH FAMILY CONNECTIONS
    2. Hello Oneida Co.. NY List Members: Could someone on the Oneida Co. list please help us. For the past five years we have been looking for the roots of my great grandfather, STEPHEN A. CHURCHILL who was born August 12, 1819. His father was reported to be ANSON CHURCHILL who would have been born about 1790/95. Research has taken us all over the Northeast US and Canada and we still can't seem to find his roots. By all accounts, Stephen married his bride, LOUISA "LIZA" SMITH on September 13, 1841 in a village/city called BEDFORD although we do admit this could be Bedford Twp., or Bedford County. Checking the US NY Census has produced a very strong signal that Anson Churchill, and possibly Stephen, his son, lived in Oneida Co., New York. Anson Churchill frequently showed up in the 1830, 1840 and 1860 Federal Census in the cities of: 1st Ward Utica-NY, Annsville Town, Kirkland, and Vienna Towen. If anyone on the Oneida Co. mail list has any CHURCHILL information which could possibly help us in our quest, it would be appreciated very much. Descendants of Stephen A. Churchill Generation No. 1 STEPHEN A.2 CHURCHILL (ANSON POSSIBLY ASA1) was born August 12, 1819 in Oneida Co. NY, Utica,Annsville Town, Kirkland Vienna Town, and died June 14, 1901 in Cadillac, Michigan -Wexford County (Homested in Rapid River Twp., Kalkaska Co, Michigan.. 1. [NYONEIDA-L] Hale family in Oneida NY
    2. Melissa Ruterbusch
    3. Hello everyone! I am searching for information about my gggrandfather, Luther Hale, who was born in 1810. He married Laura Dutcher in Oneida County about 1833, and had two sons there in the 1830's. He is in the 1840 census for Trenton, Onedia County, but moved away after that. I suspect he was born in Onedia county. I am not certain, but I think Luther is the son of John Hale and Lucy Standish. John and Lucy had two sons, Oliver, and Darius who lived in Oneida County all their lives. I am hoping to find someone who has information about the John/Oliver/Darius Hales, or better yet information about Luther Hale. I would appreciate any information at all! Thank you! Melissa R.

    2. Susan Laurson Willig
    3. Hello, Oneida County Listers! Looking for Anthony Empey, his family, descendants, and whether or not he was related to the Empeys of Ash Grove, Washington County, NY. Richard Empey of Ash Grove (b. 1775) had a brother who moved to the western part of the state. We were not sure of the given name of this brother. But we did find an Anthony Empey joining an associated meeting house in Ash Grove in the year 1794, and after that there is no mention of him. Anthony Empey does appear in the 1830, 1840 & 1850 census for Oneida County. Does any of this ring a bell with someone? Thanks. Dear rooters, About 6 months ago someone on the list said they had information about the enlistment papers of my G grandfather,Perry Percy Whitney and his brother,LaFayette when they joined the Civil War on the same day in August of 1862. The 117th NY VOL. (Oneida Fourth) But I have lost their address and haven't received the copies and have not heard anymore. I know what it's like to forget things....seems like it happens more often as time goes on. Anyway, this is just a reminder. Hope we can connect again. 3. NEWS AND NOTES AT ROOTSWEB ROOTSWEB'S WORLDCONNECT PROJECT by Robert R. Tillman, CEO <rrti@rootsweb.com> We are proud to announce the BETA TEST of the RootsWeb WorldConnect Project. Now you can upload, edit, delete and download to others your GEDCOMs on RootsWeb. We have developed GEDCOM software that is the most advanced on the Web to provide you with unprecedented control over your posted GEDCOMs. Key features include the ability to: o Upload a GEDCOM file generated by any of the major genealogy software applications WITHOUT first converting it to HTML. o Edit or delete your GEDCOMs as well as change the display or download options at any time. o Link the GEDCOM to your own home page. o Screen or remove information about living individuals from the GEDCOM. o Link Post-Em notes both from the GEDCOM originator and other RootsWeb users by attaching to the record of a particular individual. This capability is similar to the implementation of Post-Ems in RootsWeb's Social Security Death Index. o Link a GEDCOM to other GEDCOMs using Post-Ems. o Allow RootsWeb users to download subsets (portions) of the original GEDCOM starting with a specific person and choosing either ancestors or descendants. o Display GEDCOMs online in highly flexible ways. We think that this display capability is where RootsWeb WorldConnect Project really shines. Unlike with certain other Web sites, you have full control over your GEDCOM. You can change or remove it completely at any time and RootsWeb will never burn it onto a CD-ROM or charge others to access it. Check out this new capability at <http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igmuser.cgi>. Search for individuals listed in uploaded GEDCOMs at <http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi>. Beat the crowds. Upload your GEDCOM now, but please remember that this is a beta test. We will change features of the offering based upon your feedback. You can expect that there will be malfunctions, problems, delays, etc. during this test. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding. Submit your complaints and suggestions for improvements to the RootsWeb GEDCOM Suggestions Board at <http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/gedcom>. You might also want to thank Randy Winch, the author of this wonderful new RootsWeb feature. He has devoted months to this project. Kudos to Randy! 2. There is a Whitesboro just NW of the Utica city limits and I seem to remember many PRATTS buried in Forest Hills Cemetary. There is a Pratt's road SW of Utica, in the Munnsville area where some friends of ours live. The Utica historical society would be a good place to get information. Don"t see a Pratt's settlement on my Utica map. Dave in Kalamazoo, Mi
