I am searching for Robert HOLMES who married Bertha COOK from Mcconnellsville, NY. They had 2 sons, possibly more children. Robert's mother was Carrie (Coon) Holmes and they lived in Rome, NY. Robert's sister, Marion lived in Old Forge, NY (hence the Herkimer County listing) Their mother went to live with Marion and probably died there. Robert, Bertha and Marion are probably in their 70-80's. If you see a connection, please write back. thanks Joyce

http://www.ancestry.com/ancestry/search/3883.htm As with nearly all early state militias, volunteers in the New York state militia during the War of 1812 provided their own arms and clothing. This database is an index of claims presented to the State of New York for payment of expenses for military clothing and equipment provided by volunteers during the war. These claims were for clothing and equipment "which were depreciated, worn out, lost and destroyed in said service for which he had not received payment." Only the claims of those who performed duty "in the service of the State" were paid. Some additional claims were paid in good faith by the State, but as late as 1885, 17,228 claims were unpaid. Records indicate that these claims were never paid. The original declarations of claims from which the index was compiled are on file in the Bureau of War Records maintained by the Division of Military and Naval Affairs, Public Security Building, Albany, New York, 12206. The declaration indicates the claimants name and military grade, inclusive period of service and land warrant, if any, granted as a result of his service. Extended Description: Bibliography: New York Adjutant General's Office Index of Awards on Claims of the Soldiers of the War of 1812. Albany: - , 1860.
No, I didn't buy any of the books there at the Oneida Historical Society in Utica, but believe I did see a book about the Welsh on the shelf. Their address is :Oneida County Historical Society, 1608 Genessee st, Utica, Ny1350. You should be able to call them and find out for sure. Hope this helps. Dave
Still looking for info on Marinda Powell (b. ca 1825) or husband Peter Morrison (b. ca 1825) of St. Lawerence and Oswego Co's., NY. NY state census of 1855 lists that Peter and Marinda lived in Granby, Oswego Co. It also states that they were born St. Lawerence Co. I can find nothing there. The 1900-1920 Federal censuses for Oneida Co., Boonville/Forestport area for their son Peter, lists his parents as being born in Canada. I'm in a quandry. Can anyone help? Does anyone out there know of these folks? Thanks! Norma Haskins

Would be interested in knowing if there are any publications on Oneida County and where they can be purchased. Linda
The Oneida county Historical Museum on Genesee st in Utica, has a good selection of books of many types, i.e. paper, hardback on Oneida county areas on a number of different subjects. The Oneida county site on NYGENWEB also has an interesting history rendering that can be printed out. Dave Rafferty

Would there be anyone on this list who might know about this SYLVANUS ALLEN? Betty and I have been looking for this (hopefully same person) Sylvanus ALLEN for a long time! Our Sylvanus ALLEN was husband to Lydia BRYANT and father to WILLIAM ALLEN of Oneida County. I don't have any dates on Sylvanus. But William was born in 1777. His name was found in the "what's new" section of the Oneida County web page, address below. http://www.rootsweb.com/~nyoneida/census/camden1814a.html Allen, Isaac Allen, Moses Allen, Solomon Allen, Sylvanus Thanks so much, Jo Dee Frasco
This was posted on the CTMIDDLE list at roots web by Robert Squires. The following images are about Middlesex County history, scanned from John Warner Barber's Connecticut Historical Collections, published at New Haven by Durrie & Peck and J. W. Barber in 1838. Image 03 of 18 refers to Hugh White, founder of Whitestown. http://home.earthlink.net/~rjswlw/mid03aa.jpg Thought it might be of interest to the list. -- Neal F. I have a Hiram WILCOX born in Oneida County, NY in 1819. He had a younger brother William. They went on to Fulton County, IN and then to Benton County, IA. Hiram married a Sophronia. I need help in finding his parents names and Sophronia's maiden name. Thanks for any help. Gerry Neveaux rjgpneveaux@worldnet.att.net
Dear listers, We've tried to locate a marriage record in both MA and RI where the two parties of the marriage were from. Samuel MORRIS was born abt 1766-1768 in RI and Charlotte MILLS was born in 1870 in MA. We know that William S. MORRIS was born in 1796 and he said on a census, that he was born in Oneida, NY. A couple of MILLS boys showed up in Madison county. If Charlotte came "West" with her brothers, she may have married in NY. Is there any chance that there might be a marriage at a church or someplace that early? Charlotte is said to have died in childbirth in 1808 when her daughter Charlotte was born. Samuel is on the 1810 Onondaga census in Pompey. His property purchase is in Madison county, right on the border. His third wife and youngest son are baptised in the Methodist church in Cazenovia in 1834. Would appreciate some leads!! I am hoping and praying that SKS on this list may finally be able to help me out with the following puzzle. I have my family tree (1700 names & 600 marriages) and I also have this family tree that I would dearly love to be able to tie into the rest. I am trying to find out any information I possibly can relating to this branch of the family - especially any information relating to Josep as I would love to be able to tie him back to the United Kingdom branch. If there is anybody on the list who could possibly help me out I would be eternally grateful. Any other information relating to the family would be most welcome. Here's hoping with my fingers crossed!!! Lisbeth Grisenthwaite BELGIUM. ******************************************************** 1 Joseph Grisenthwaite #1 b. _____ d. 18 April 1940 m.
