    2. There is a Clark Mills. The county map shows it just west of Utica, zip 13321, post office boxes only. Intersecting roads are Clinton(32) Main st, Westmoreland. It is several miles north of the village of Clinton.Looks like best access is west on rt.5 from Utica and North on rte 32, or Westmoreland from nw Utica. Hope this helps. Dave Rafferty

    2. Siobhan Kimminau
    3. Hi all, I am new to this particular list, so I thought I would put my surname interest out there. I am interested in finding out more information on my great great grandmother and her siblings, parents, etc. Her name was Rhoda A. Petteys. She was born December 20, 1844 in Oneida County. In May of 1865, she married Capt. Israel G. Heaps in Annawan, Henry County, Illinois. What I know is that her siblings (to the best of my knowledge) were George, Sarah, and John H. I am not sure where in New York it was that Sarah, John and George were born. I know that their father was Hiram Petteys, born April 18, 1805 in Charleston, Montgomery County, New York and that he married Susan Brand on October 10, 1828 somewhere in New York. Hiram was said to be a minister in the Christian Church. Thanks in advance for the help! Siobhan Richardson Kimminau Omaha, NE

    3. Is anyone researching the name WHEELER? Given names: Joseph, Sam, Joan, Charlotte, Salome, who are all children of Daniel WHEELER (b. 29 Sep 1798 in Camden, MA) and Sophronia BRYAN. Also Isaac WHEELER (father of the above Daniel) whose children were Daniel, Charles, Samuel, Isaac, Joseph, Occamen, Russell & Betsey. Isaac was married to a woman named Letitia in 1831, but I am not certain this was the mother of his children. She may have been his second wife. Any insight would help. One or both married in Oneida in early 1800's. I see living in Oneida: Solomon, John and Oliver. Does anyone have any source that might help with their origin. 3. From: History of Oneida County, NY with Illus & Biog. Sketches, 1667- 1878, Evarts & Farris, Philadelphia, page 438: About 1800, Manning Barnes came to this town from the State of Connecticut, and located where the village of West Camden now stands. He built a log house on the site of the present hotel at the place, and a frame part afterwards added is now a portion of the hotel. Some time after he settled, having been obliged to keep persons overnight who were on their way north and nortwest ( into Jefferson and other counties), he erected a sign, and made a business of tavern-keeping for many years. Mr. Barnes was accompanied to this town by his brothers, Whiting and Lyman. They selected land upon which to locate, and afterwards moved in the family of their father, Zopher Barnes. he other sons were Zopher, Street, and Pliny Barnes. Whiting Barnes settled on the farm now owned by A. Barnes, westward of West Camden. I don't see anything about the youngest Zopher. Hope this helps. 3. This person's attitude was really a shame. What's the harm in letting someone access to a cemetery? As long as the person isn't trampling through and destroying the area (the owner of the property could escort the visitor) I just don't see any harm. But then, I don't have a cemetery on my property... We had a lovely experience when my husband and I were in New Hampshire a couple of years ago. There exists a family cemetery that pertains to my husband's family, and it's on private property, although we didn't know it. It was along a public road and we just didn't stop to think it might be private property. Anyway, at some point, the owner of the property noticed us and came out and introduced himself. We had a nice chat about family history (it turns out he's the direct decendant of the Dudleys and there's a trust of some kind for the upkeep of the cemetery), we exchanged addresses and phone numbers, and my husband and this "cousin" have kept in touch on and off ever since. They exchanged family data, brought each other up-to-date on their own branches of the family, etc. It was a really mutually beneficial visit... Too bad not all people are open-minded enough to see this... Mary

    3. Hello: I remember going to the Utica Club Brewery many times as a college student in Utica. It was off Rte. 5 on the north side of town. Schultz and Duley were the two mugs - we don't remember the song. There was also a "keystone cop" type character and a little girl with a shamrock on her dress. The current name of the brewery should be F X Matt, unless it has been bought out recently. Hope this helps. There is a bed and breakfast inn in Ashville, NC called the Cladaugh that has original Schultz and Duley mugs - the owners moved there from Utica area a few years ago. If you double check the internet for the inn, they might be able to help you. jane@globalaccess-inc.com NYONEIDA-D-request@rootsweb.com wrote: > Subject: > > NYONEIDA-D Digest Volume 99 : Issue 256 > > Today's Topics: > #1 [NYONEIDA-L] Oneida Seminary [chris benson <makettle@dreamscape.] > #2 [NYONEIDA-L] Census [Priscilla Varney <pvarney@mint.net] > #3 [NYONEIDA-L] Re: Joseph Hale ["Joanne Bartholomew" <jbarth543@sh] > #4 [NYONEIDA-L] Howard Page or Marion [PMACEACHER@aol.com] > #5 [NYONEIDA-L] Utica Brewery/ies [C M Strong <cmstrong@mindspring.co] > #6 [NYONEIDA-L] Richard CHAPEL [Martin W Beerman <mwbeerman@home.c] > #7 Re: [NYONEIDA-L] Utica Brewery/ies ["Broneske" <unicorn@softcom.net>] > #8 Re: [NYONEIDA-L] Utica Brewery/ies [Eden2001@aol.com] > #9 Re: [NYONEIDA-L] Utica Brewery/ies [Leonard Brower <w2hax@sunline.net>] > > Administrivia: > To unsubscribe from NYONEIDA-D, send a message to > > NYONEIDA-D-request@rootsweb.com > > that contains in the body of the message the command > > unsubscribe > > and no other text. 2. Hi, I would think that most states give citizens access to graveyards on private property. A good source to find out would be either the state library or the legislative services bureau. (Most states have one or both.) I work for the Maryland Legislative Services Library and we get questions like that all the time from citizens. They are usually a good, free source to check laws and regulations. And most have Web pages. It is certainly a shame to travel all that way to be denied access. Maybe a copy of the law or regulation will not help if someone doesn't want you on their property but it might also be worth a try. Carol

    3. I recently had a similar experience at a cemetery in Oswego Co., NY that was on private land. I went to the county clerks office and was told that New York has a law/regulation that allows access to cemeteries on private land and if the owner wants to he can have the town/county/state maintain the cemetery for him.
