    2. Daniel H. Weiskotten
    3. This message from the New York State Archives, on the 11th floor of the Cultural Education Center, Albany, just came out today - if you are planning on using their excellent resources be aware of the renovations and limitiations that will be necesary until they get back in gear. Dan W. >From Jim Folts on the NY-HIST list > >NEW YORK STATE ARCHIVES >ADVANCE NOTICE TO RESEARCHERS > >January 4, 2000 > >The New York State Archives research and storage facilities on the 11th floor of the Cultural Education Center, Empire State Plaza, Albany, will be undergoing major renovation starting late 2000. The renovation project is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year 2002. Services to researchers will continue during the renovation period, but the public research room and records storage areas will be relocated elsewhere in the Cultural Education Center, with many records being stored off-site. Relocation of records to alternate storage sites is already under way. > >Certain limitations on services to Archives researchers will be necessary during the relocation and renovation periods. In particular, retrieval of records for inspection or copying will be subject to delay, and the number of items (boxes, files, etc.) available to a researcher at any one time may be limited. There will be no limitations on access to frequently-used records available on microfilm or microfiche. > >Researchers who are contemplating intensive on-site use of records in the State Archives at any time during the next three years are encouraged to contact Archives reference staff to discuss the availability of the records. The New York State Archives will remain open for business during the relocation and, at a location to be announced later this year, during the actual renovation period. There may be occasions when the Archives will have to close for short periods of time. Notices of any changes in service will be posted as much in advance of the event as possible. Archives staff will strive to provide the best possible service to our researchers in government agencies, business firms, and the general public. > >NEW YORK STATE ARCHIVES >Cultural Education Center Room 11D40 >Albany, NY 12230 >Phone 518-474-8955 >E-mail archref@mail.nysed.gov >http://www.sara.nysed.gov >

I understand that an index to this book has also been compiled by Charles Pond, Jr. Thanks. Ron McRoberts mcrob001@tc.umn.edu Ron McRoberts mcrob001@maroon.tc.umn.edu

    1. Re: [NYONEIDA-L] Annsville
    2. Ron & other researchers, The Town of Annsville lost two of their people this past year who were either town historians or very involved with the history and genealogy of the town. Your best bet would be to ask the town clerk and ask her who is currently the town historian. Town Clerk office 1-315-337-0666, Chirstine Broskie. As hard as they try, the town historians listed on the GenWebsite are not always up to date. You call also E-mail Ginny Ackerman, Lee Town Historian and ask her who is the current Annsville Town Historian. Ginny is the town historian of Lee, but she lives in or close to Annsville. Ginny is a delightful lady and I am sure she will be happy to help. Ginny's E-mail > waysider@borg.com Good Luck with your search. Dave in PA

    1. Re: [NYONEIDA-L] GRAHAM, Frank David
    2. Hi Chris & other researhers, You can get a copy of a birth certificate in Albany, NY if your person was born after 1881. The ones they have are indexed by year, then by surname, so it really helps if you know the year of the event. The NY ACHIVES has the yearly indexes on microfiche, which the general public can view at their facility, which is on the top floor (11th) of the Empire Plaza Museum Building in Albany. The index will give you the date of birth, death or marriage and the certificate number. Then you fill out a short form and submitted it to an office in the concourse level of the Empire Plaza. The Certificate Number is the key to getting your certificate in about 2 weeks, without it you could wait 6 months or more and then find out that there is no record. The marriage records work pretty much the same as the death and birth, but there are two entries on the index cards, one for bride and one for groom. It pays to check both names, if known, to make sure the certificate numbers agree before purchasing the certificate. It would be nice if someone would take the time to make a overall surname index of all the records available, but no kind soul has done that yet, that I know of and it would be a large project. Good luck to all you researhers. Dave in PA

    1. [NYONEIDA-L] 1827 Utica churches
    2. Graham Louer
    3. Hi, Can anyone tell me, please, what churches existed in Utica in 1827? Several years ago, a paid researcher reported that Henry Sanford, son of John M. Sanford and his wife Sarah/Sally, was born in Utica in 1827, but gave no source of info, and l wasn't smart enough to ask. l don't now have even his/her name so as to ask, but l suppose he/she must have obtained the date --- it was the exact date --- from a baptismal record. Alternatively, is there a source somewhere that might show what churches then existed and how to access their records? Thank you, Graham Louer

    1. Re: [NYONEIDA-L] Murray in Utica
    2. Joanne Garland
    3. Hi Karen, You might try sending to the City of Utica Dept. of Vital Records, 406 Elizabeth St., Utica, NY 13501 for a death certificate (genealogical copy, long form) for Elizabeth Murray in the year 1913. The cost is $11.00 by money order, and you will need a copy of your driver's license and some indication of how you are related to the deceased. If you have questions, their phone number is 315-738-0218. If you don't know any one specific year of death, they can tell you the cost of searching, say, a three-year time period. They can also tell you where to send for a copy of the marriage certificate. Good luck. Joanne Garland -----Original Message----- From: Karen L. I am looking for information on Hugh and Elizabeth Murray of Utica in the time frame of 1908 and 1913. I believe Hugh died 1908-1909 and Elizabeth 1913-1914. I need help finding their exact date of deaths. In 1908 they lived on 58 Tracy Street. The last time Elizabeth appeared in the directory was 1913 and was listed as widow of Hugh living at 336 Lincoln. They were married in the Grace Episcopal Church, Genesee Street, Utica on February 16, 1876. I wrote to the church in the spring of 1999 and never received a response. Can anyone help? Thanks, Karen (in chilly Montana) ______________________________

    1. [NYONEIDA-L] Jury, Herkimer Cty, Oneida Cty
    2. Claire Jury-Cranford
    3. I sent this to the Herkimer list, but since Litchfield was so close to Oneida County and Sauquoit is in Oneida County, that maybe someone on this list might know the answers. Will appreciate any help. Hi List, My Grandfather George Jury farmed in Litchfield between 1910 and 1932? After that he owned a coal dealership in Sauquoit until his death in 1948. He had two children, Frederick who lived in Floyd, died 1977 and William who died in Cassville in 1991. His wife Florence born in England died in 1926 in Litchfield. Both her and George are buried in Sauquoit Valley Cemetery. He was born in Canada and married in England in 1898. In 1909 he returned to Canada and entered the US in 1909 through Buffalo. On his declaration of intent ,[1919] are the names of . Wilbur J. Davies, farmer....Litchfield, Frankfort Albert R. Bolton , farmer...New Hartford, Litchfield. My question is this. Does anyone know the names of the wives of Davies and Bolton. Why would a man leave Canada and come to Litchfield with a wife and young son? Why this particular place? Was one of the wives of these men kin to George Jury? Does any one know the answers or are familiar with these names? Any help will be appreciated. Claire Jury Cranford North Carolina
